Patient Access Representative

Location and Shift Geisinger Healthplex State College, Days (United States of America) Job Summary Responsible for front line support to the department. Coordinates and performs front line office activities in an effective and efficient manner for the department. Greets and registers incoming patients, supports the patient check out process and schedules future appointments as applicable. Job Duties Checking patients in for appointments and accurately verifying demographics. Ensuring all check‑in procedures are completed and monitoring patient wait times, communicating changes to patients as necessary. Reading and interpreting insurance responses, understanding insurance guidelines to properly assign primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance per encounter. Ensuring patient receives necessary disclosures and privacy information, obtaining necessary legal and financial signatures. Communicating financial obligations to patients and collecting fees at time of service as appropriate. Completing regulatory forms with patients and scheduling follow‑up appointments including specialty or ancillary services as possible. Processing multi‑channel messages related to patient/physician requests regarding appointments, referrals, prescriptions, and complaints. Notifying patient or guarantor of anticipated financial responsibility (copays, deductibles, coinsurances) and collecting accordingly. Performing cash posting following department guidelines. Working independently with work queues to ensure timely resolution of all accounts, maintaining productivity and quality performance expectations. Maintaining confidentiality, privacy, HIPAA guidelines, and patient rights. Accurately performing medical record maintenance and releases. Assisting with referrals and pre‑certifications at the time of encounter. Properly utilizing and maintaining patient recall and reschedule lists.
