Environmental Services Supervisor This position is responsible for planning, implementing, prioritizing, administering, and maintaining the Environmental Services Program. It oversees policies and procedures, ensures staff training and development, and manages quality audits. Key Responsibilities Determines housekeeping needs, prepares work schedules and individual work loads. Supervises assigned personnel in housekeeping activities. Implements formal in‑service training programs and APPA‑rated inspections for cleanliness. Reports maintenance needs to appropriate personnel. Reviews work through written reports, conferences and inspections. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of institutional housekeeping program management, including cleaning products and techniques. Working knowledge of personnel, purchasing procedures and practices. Ability to utilize time management and prioritization skills. Strong organizational skills. Ability to assist management in planning, developing, implementing, and maintaining an effective housekeeping program for the University. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality standards. Considerable knowledge of specific types of floor surfaces and methods, materials, and equipment used in cleaning such surfaces; skill in using and caring for floor maintenance equipment. Ability to supervise a floor crew. Computer skills (Microsoft Office, AiM Time Card, and Work Order) to maintain records and prepare required reports. Valid driver’s license and ability to operate ASU vehicles. Preferred Qualifications Supervisory experience. Training experience. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Prioritizing and organizational skills. Considerable knowledge of all aspects of Environmental Services. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, blueprints, AiM, and AutoCAD. Willingness to learn new job skills and techniques. Functional Competencies Knowledge – Technical: Plans work operations; establishes priorities and sets deadlines over a short‑range period within established goals and objectives. Arranges and assigns work. Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer skills such as e‑mail and supply ordering. Demonstrated proficiency in service area and the ability to train and/or advise others. Arranges for repair and maintenance of equipment and machinery with appropriate follow‑up. Knowledgeable and skilled in the safe operation of a variety of small to medium‑size equipment and vehicles. Advanced skills to provide thorough inspections of all spaces. Documents work orders when applicable. Customer Service: Anticipates customer, student, staff and faculty needs, and addresses and resolves promptly and respectfully. Represents the work area when needed to customers on matters of concern. Managing Work Processes: Reviews accomplishments to ensure program missions and goals are being met. Makes final review for the most difficult, controversial or sensitive work to assess and problem‑solve. Safety and Health Compliance: Monitors and encourages all employees to follow proper safety and health guidelines. Recognizes and reports cleaning and maintenance equipment and machinery deemed unsafe. Work Schedule Night shift work hours: 8‑hour workday schedule with primary hours varying within the following time frame: 3:30 pm – 12:00 midnight; Monday through Friday. Weekend work and hours outside the normal schedule may be required to accomplish assigned duties. The position may require call‑in, call‑back or stay‑over on-off schedule hours and weekends in case of emergencies. This position will also require weekend work for sporting events and other campus events, and may be required to work as needed in the event of staffing shortages. Physical Demands Physical efforts include lifting and moving all types of tables, chairs, chemicals and supplies, furniture, office and classroom equipment, ladders, trash and debris, including snow and ice. Work can involve climbing ladders. Must be able to lift 50‑100 pounds and maneuver/ set up heavy athletic equipment such as basketball goals, floor covers, volleyball/badminton equipment. Salary Anticipated hiring range: $45,696 – $47,692. Pay will be commensurate with applicant competencies, budget, equity and market considerations.
