Overview Sea Mar Community Health Centers is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) founded in 1978 and dedicated to providing comprehensive health, human, housing, educational, and cultural services to diverse communities, especially to Latinos in Washington State. The organization serves all persons regardless of race, ethnicity, immigration status, gender, sexual orientation, or ability to pay for services. Position Summary AmeriCorps Service Member – Birth Doula (Full‑time Volunteer Position). Members receive up to $20,400 prorated stipend over a 10‑11 month term of 1,700 hours, a Living Allowance stipend, and a maximum $7,395 Education Award upon completion. The role includes training as a birthing doula with the Simkin Center at Bastyr University and providing support throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Participate in mandatory trainings, service projects, and team‑building activities. Schedule appointments and help clients navigate health system barriers. Initiate communication with patients and make supported referrals. Provide emotional, physical, moral, and educational support to mothers, especially when family support is limited. Attend prenatal meetings to discuss birth preferences and other client needs. Remain with the mother throughout labor, delivering physical and emotional support. Visit the mother’s home after discharge to assist with infant care and maternal recovery. Deliver doula services that meet the DONA International Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics. Qualifications and Requirements At least 17 years of age at the start of service; special circumstances may allow a 16‑year‑old out‑of‑school youth. High school diploma or GED (or willingness to obtain prior to award usage). Citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States. Ability to interpret documents, write reports, and communicate effectively with clients and staff. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with people from diverse backgrounds. Can work with minimal supervision, use good judgment, meet deadlines, and prioritize workloads. Maintains confidentiality, professionalism, and appropriate boundaries in all interactions. Well organized with strong attention to detail. Computer literate and competent with Windows Office programs. Problem‑solving and deductive reasoning skills with awareness of when to seek assistance.
