Job Overview Stanford Health Care is seeking a senior, strategic leader to run the business, governance, and operational excellence functions behind one of the organization’s most critical operational divisions. As Director, Operational Excellence & Administration, you will serve as the administrative and operational integrator within Facilities Services across one or more business units —overseeing core business functions, performance management systems, and corporate business processes while enabling safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations across a complex, multisite healthcare system. Partnering closely with executive and operational leaders, this role translates complex planning, design, cost, and operational inputs into clear, decision ready insights that surface risk, strengthen accountability, and drive division alignment. Through disciplined governance, data driven execution, standardized best practices, and continuous improvement, the Director elevates quality, accelerates delivery, and maximizes value in direct support of Stanford Health Care’s mission and clinical excellence. The Facilities Services division enhances health through leadership, collaboration, and innovation. Our team offers essential non-clinical support 24/7, ensuring safe operations and planning for future needs. Learn more about Facilities Services at: Facilities Services | Stanford Health Care ( The Facilities Planning & Design (FPD) business unit leads the planning, design, and improvement of Stanford Health Care’s spaces to advance excellence in care, innovation, and experience. With expertise across Planning, Design, Land Use & Licensing, Art, Wayfinding, Signage, and Facilities Administration, FPD turns vision into reality, creating functional, compliant, and inspiring environments aligned with Stanford Medicine’s mission. By standardizing best practices and advancing strategic initiatives, Facilities Administration elevates quality, accelerates timelines, and maximizes value across the organization. Qualifications Requires a bachelor’s degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university. Six+ (6+) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience required. Relevant experience in lieu of degree may be considered. Relevant experience in lieu of degree is in addition to the experience requirements for this position. Master’s degree (e.g., MBA, MHA, MPA, engineering management) preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to establish strategic direction and translate it into executable plans with measurable outcomes; skilled in portfolio and program management. Strong financial acumen, including operating/capital budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and business case development. Expertise in contract administration and vendor performance management, including service level design and KPI tracking. Knowledge of healthcare facilities operations and applicable standards and regulations (e.g., Joint Commission Environment of Care, CMS, OSHA, NFPA), and the implications for administrative processes and systems. Proficiency with enterprise facilities systems (Enterprise Asset Management (EAM)/Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS)/Computer-Aided Facility Management (CAFM), project controls, scheduling) and business intelligence/reporting tools; understanding of data governance and workflow standardization. Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and evaluate efficient, cost-effective administrative processes; Lean/continuous improvement mindset. Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills; ability to influence at all levels and coordinate across diverse stakeholder groups. Proven leadership and talent development capabilities; ability to manage complex projects and resources (people, time, and budgets) in a dynamic 24/7 healthcare environment.
