Process Metallurgist

Compensation: $100,000–$120,000 base salary, plus bonus based on experience Relocation: Relocation assistance available Employment Type: Full-time Position Summary Our client is seeking a Process Metallurgist to join its specialty strip mill operations in Wallingford, CT. This position will support sales, production, and other organizational units in determining the company’s ability to produce products that meet defined customer requirements. The Process Metallurgist will consult with sales, operations, and customers to review product specifications and production challenges, provide technical recommendations, and help develop cost-effective processing solutions. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of materials science and metallurgy, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate across departments to meet customer needs. Key Responsibilities Provide metallurgical and technical expertise in the application of materials and processing procedures required to achieve customer specifications or resolve product-related problems. Collaborate with sales, laboratory, and layout teams in the preparation of bid proposals. Provide technical guidance regarding materials, procedures, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Assist in determining the company’s ability to meet customer product requirements. Develop detailed product order requirements in support of defined specifications. Review and establish material processing requirements and recommend appropriate, cost-effective procedures for order processing. Assist in selecting raw materials based on the physical and chemical properties required to achieve the desired end result. Support the design of production practices and procedures to meet special customer requirements. Monitor production capacity, processing requirements, and other factors that may affect delivery. Work cross-functionally to identify and resolve technical and production challenges. Lead projects independently and organize project teams to ensure goals are achieved. Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the overall success of the organization. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a closely related field is required. 3+ years of experience in the metals industry preferred. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively on cross-functional initiatives. Strong understanding of materials, engineering theory, and principles of design. Demonstrated conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated experience leading projects independently. Ability to organize project teams and follow through on activities to completion. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities. A hands-on, results-oriented approach to achieving project and production goals. $100,000–$120,000 base salary, plus bonus based on experience. Relocation assistance available.
