Systems Engineer – Defense & Aerospace

Work Arrangement: Hybrid – Must be able to report to a designated company hub as needed.

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Systems Engineer to support the design, development, integration, testing, and lifecycle management of complex systems within the defense and aerospace industry. This position will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to develop and integrate advanced technologies while ensuring system performance, reliability, and compliance with technical requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in systems engineering principles, experience with computer integration and testing, and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical challenges in a collaborative engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Design & Development

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to design and develop system architectures, subsystems, and components for aerospace and defense applications.
• Analyze system requirements, conduct feasibility studies, and develop technical design specifications.
• Support the development and implementation of innovative engineering solutions.

Systems Integration & Testing

• Coordinate and execute the integration of hardware, software, and subsystem components to ensure functionality and interoperability.
• Perform computer integration and testing activities to validate system performance.
• Troubleshoot integration issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Develop and execute test procedures to verify system functionality and performance.

Requirements Management

• Define, document, analyze, and manage system requirements throughout the development lifecycle.
• Translate stakeholder needs into technical requirements and specifications.
• Maintain requirements traceability and ensure alignment between system design, implementation, and testing.

Verification & Validation

• Plan and execute system verification and validation activities to ensure compliance with technical and performance requirements.
• Develop test plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria.
• Analyze test results, document findings, and recommend system improvements.

Risk Management & System Reliability

• Identify and assess technical risks associated with system design, integration, and operation.
• Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to enhance system safety, reliability, and performance.
• Support system troubleshooting, performance evaluations, and corrective action planning.

Technical Documentation & Lifecycle Support

• Prepare and maintain system specifications, design documentation, test plans, technical reports, and user documentation.
• Support configuration management, system upgrades, maintenance planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure engineering activities and documentation comply with applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with engineering teams, project managers, technical stakeholders, and customers to support project objectives.
• Participate in technical reviews, engineering discussions, and project status meetings.
• Communicate technical findings, risks, and recommendations clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Support engineering project execution within established schedules and budgets.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, methodologies, and best practices.
• Experience with computer integration and testing, including hardware and software integration activities.
• Knowledge of system requirements development, management, verification, and validation.
• Familiarity with aerospace and defense industry standards, regulations, and technical specifications.
• Understanding of relevant technologies, including avionics, sensors, communication systems, and software integration.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve complex technical challenges.
• Experience preparing technical documentation, specifications, and test procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Understanding of engineering project management principles, including scheduling, resource coordination, and technical deliverables.
• Familiarity with systems engineering tools used for requirements management, modeling, simulation, and configuration management.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Systems Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Experience supporting aerospace or defense system development and integration programs.
• Experience with Bash scripting.
• Experience with one or more of the following engineering tools:
• IBM DOORS
• Jama
• SysML
• MATLAB
• Simulink
• Cameo Systems Modeler
• Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) methodologies.
• Relevant engineering certifications or advanced technical training.

Security Requirements

• Depending on project requirements, candidates may be required to hold or obtain an appropriate security clearance.
• Must be able to comply with applicable security protocols, background screening requirements, and project-specific regulations.
