SolidWorks CAD Modeler for AI Training

Role Overview

Apply your mechanical design expertise to create high-quality CAD inputs that help train next-generation AI systems. This remote contract role focuses on parametric modeling work in FreeCAD, with SolidWorks and comparable 3D parametric CAD experience directly transferable. Prior FreeCAD experience is preferred but not required, and AI experience is not required.

Key Responsibilities

• Create fully parametric 3D CAD models of mechanical parts and assemblies from written briefs, using robust feature trees and precise constraints.
• Edit and update existing parametric models to meet new technical requirements, documenting all changes completely.
• Audit models for dimensional accuracy, appropriate tolerance application, and manufacturability.
• Apply design-for-manufacturability principles for injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, casting, and forging.
• Translate design intent and technical requirements into clear, structured CAD data suitable for AI training.
• Communicate with project coordinators and fellow contributors through detailed written reports and verbal updates.

Qualifications

• At least 4 years of hands-on parametric CAD editing experience using SolidWorks, FreeCAD, Fusion 360, Autodesk Inventor, or similar software.
• At least 10 years of experience creating complex assemblies.
• Practical experience applying GD&T under ASME Y14.5 or equivalent standards in manufacturing environments.
• Experience supporting at least two manufacturing methods, including injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, casting, or forging.
• Current, active involvement in mechanical or industrial CAD modeling.
• Strong mechanical design, CAD editing, feature tree management, tolerance application, manufacturability analysis, and project documentation skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Assembly-level modeling experience.
• Reverse-engineering experience, such as scan-to-CAD or point-cloud conversion, is a significant advantage.
• Experience automating CAD workflows with Python, iLogic, VBA, or similar scripting tools is beneficial.

Work Terms

• Remote contract engagement.

Compensation

• $40 to $100 per hour.
