CHIEF Operating Officer

Chief Operating OfficerThe Chief Operating Officer (COO) serves as the senior operational leader of a multi-site, physician-led dermatology and dermatopathology organization in the greater Houston area. This is an on-site executive leadership position and is not remote.Reporting directly to the President, the COO is responsible for enterprise-wide operational execution, physician recruitment and retention, infrastructure development, provider integration, and scalable organizational growth. This is a highly hands-on operational leadership role requiring active day-to-day involvement across the organization. The COO functions within a collaborative, matrixed leadership environment and must effectively align clinical vision with operational performance across all business units.Key ResponsibilitiesExecute the organization's strategic plan in partnership with the PresidentLead expansion initiatives, including new clinic development and service line growthMaintain direct responsibility for physician and advanced practice provider recruitment, including sourcing, relationship development, interviewing, contract coordination and retention effortsDevelop and maintain physician recruitment pipelines and professional relationships within the specialtyEnsure operational readiness for new locations, including staffing, workflows, systems, and infrastructureIdentify and implement scalable operational improvements to support continued growthProvide hands-on leadership and operational oversight across all practice locationsMonitor, analyze, and improve key operational and performance metricsEnsure consistency, efficiency, accountability, and service excellence across all clinical and administrative locationsPartner with the Controller, Systems Manager, and other key leaders to align operational performance with financial, human resources, and information technology objectivesDrive operational excellence through data-informed decision making and continuous process improvementDirect oversight of:Regional ManagersHealth Information & Systems ManagerBusiness Development SpecialistAdditional responsibilities include:Standardizing workflows, policies, and operational procedures across all sitesProviding executive-level oversight of dermatopathology laboratory operationsCollaborating with the Controller regarding capital equipment planning and supply chain strategyLeading implementation and execution of enterprise-wide operational initiativesMaintaining regular presence within clinic and operational environments to ensure accountability and executionMaintain executive accountability for organizational compliance, including: HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, Medicare and Medicaid regulationsOverseeing audit readiness initiativesManaging organizational risk mitigation strategiesEnsuring adherence to all applicable healthcare regulatory standardsEnsure a smooth onboarding experience and operational readiness for new providersSupport physician alignment, engagement, retention, and productivity initiativesPlan and lead physician and leadership meetings as requestedFoster a collaborative, physician-centric operational cultureOversee organizational marketing strategy and vendor relationshipsMonitor referral trends, market growth patterns, and business development opportunitiesEnsure brand consistency and professional presentation across all locationsRequirementsBachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field preferredMinimum of 7–10 years of progressive healthcare operational leadership experienceDemonstrated success in physician recruitment, organizational growth, and operational scalingMulti-site physician practice management experience strongly preferredDermatology, surgical, or specialty practice experience preferredProven ability to lead in a hands-on, fast-paced operational environmentStrong leadership, communication, recruiting, and strategic planning skillsHigh level of business acumen, professionalism and ability to balance physician relationships and operational accountabilityClear Background ChecksAbility to travel to locations as neededCompensation package will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualification
