Psychiatrist

Overview We are seeking a child and adolescent psychiatrist to join our expanding hospital‑based Psychiatry and Behavioral Health services at Stony Brook University Hospital. The role involves attending duties on a 10‑bed inpatient unit for children and adolescents aged 9–15, providing psychiatric evaluation, treatment, consultation, and teaching fellows. Responsibilities Attend on weekends and cover vacation/holiday shifts for the 10‑bed inpatient unit for Children & Adolescents (aged 9‑15). Provide psychiatric diagnostic evaluations and treatment to patients on the inpatient unit, collaborating with psychologists, behavioral specialists, special education teachers, social workers, nursing staff, activities therapists, and fellows. Offer psychiatric consultation and follow‑up care to patients admitted to Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. Teach and supervise child and adolescent psychiatry fellows and other trainees. Maintain flexibility in scheduling to meet operational needs, including occasional weekday hours in place of weekend coverage. Qualifications MD/DO or foreign equivalent. Board eligibility or board certification in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. New York State medical license at start date. Inpatient child & adolescent experience (preferred). Experience in teaching. Track record of academic accomplishment. Special Notes Non‑Tenure Track, FLSA exempt position. To qualify for a senior faculty appointment, the candidate must meet the criteria established by the School of Medicine’s Criteria for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure. Schedule & Start Date Part‑time 20‑hour per week, typically covering weekends (Saturday & Sunday). Flexibility for vacation, holiday coverage, and occasionally weekday hours within a two‑week pay period may be required. Anticipated start date: As soon as possible.
