Job Title Deputy Sheriff Recruit – Fresno County Sheriff’s Office Interview Date Interview tentatively scheduled for July 20, 2026. Job Overview Incumbents attend a Basic Peace Officers Academy covering law enforcement procedures, firearms and weaponless defense, first aid, arrest and evidence laws, and physical fitness. Candidates must maintain proficiency, attend required training, and may be assigned non‑sworn duties as needed. Responsibilities Attend Basic Peace Officers Academy training and maintain proficiency. Participate in rigorous physical fitness training. Study and apply law enforcement procedures: firearms use, weaponless defense, first aid, arrest and evidence laws, law enforcement techniques. Work overtime and shift duties (nights, weekends, holidays) as assigned. Perform non‑sworn duties as required. Qualifications Currently enrolled or accepted into a California Basic Police Academy certified by the Department of Justice, Peace Officer Standards and Training. Provide enrollment verification or acceptance letter with full name. Age: at least 20 years. Valid class "C" driver’s license; a class "B" license may be required. Pass a polygraph or Computer Voice Stress Analysis examination. Pass a comprehensive background investigation. Pass a medical and psychological exam prior to transition to permanent Deputy Sheriff II classification. Application Process Applicants must submit an online application only. Selection Process Applicants may be required to complete an examination. Successful candidates will be placed on a minimum 3‑month list for vacancies. The eligible list may be used for up to 12 months for both extra‑help and permanently allocated positions.
