DEPUTY SHERIFF TRAINEE (SKILLBRIDGE PROGRAM) ACTIVE MILITARY PERSONNEL

Special Salary Information The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has partnered with the Department of War to provide an outstanding SkillBridge program for eligible, transitioning military service members. Participants receive hands‑on training that helps prepare them for the Deputy Sheriff Trainee role. Compensation during the SkillBridge program is provided through the Department of War. Eligible graduates will receive the following base pay upon hire as a Deputy Sheriff Trainee:

• AA/AS: $7,221 Monthly
• BA/BS: $7,624 Monthly

Upon graduation from the academy, those appointed to the position of Deputy Sheriff will receive a Basic Post Certificate (BPC) bonus and may be eligible for elevated base pay with additional education:

• AA/AS: $7,705.33 Monthly
• BA/BS: $8,135.36 Monthly

SkillBridge Program Duties Hands‑on training Structured environment Observe law enforcement operations Experience public service Deputy Sheriff Trainee Duties Participate in formal law enforcement training Classroom and practical training Deputy Sheriff Duties Testify in court Make a forcible arrest Search for and handle evidence or contraband Use a firearm Drive a county vehicle Requirements to Qualify Currently serving in the military At least 19½ years of age at time of application Eligible to work legally in the United States under federal law Graduated from an accredited high school, its equivalent, or higher in accordance with California Government Code Section 1031(e) Valid California Class "C" driver license or equivalent from another state upon submitting application; a Class "C" or higher license required by the time of appointment to Deputy Sheriff Trainee Physical Class IV – Arduous Class involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working above ground on irregular surfaces. It includes positions that occasionally demand extraordinary physical activity, such as safety positions. Physical Requirements Must be in good general physical condition and free from any medical condition that would interfere with satisfactory performance of essential duties. Vision Requirements Uncorrected acuity of at least 20/70 in each eye; correctable to 20/30 in each eye. Soft contact lens wearers can meet the corrected vision standard. Hearing Requirements Sound level loss must not exceed specified limits across test frequencies. Disqualifying levels include significant loss above threshold values, with examination of borderline cases by Occupational Health Program staff. #J-18808-Ljbffr County of Los Angeles
