Special Salary Information The Reserve Deputy Sheriff-Lateral position receives monetary compensation of $1.00 annually for the performance of their duties. Classification Standards The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department – Reserve Forces Detail consists of volunteers who support the department's law‑enforcement operations. Reserve Deputies undergo the same hiring standards as full‑time Deputies and are sworn officers. They can be assigned to the same duties as full‑time Deputies and must meet the same background and training requirements. Responsibilities Takes action to protect persons or property from immediate danger, in accordance with law and policy. Performs law‑enforcement administrative duties such as writing reports, maintaining logs, and other records. Maintains current knowledge of applicable policies and procedures. Maintains and cares for all equipment, including weapons, ammunition, and other specialized equipment; attends required training and maintains proficiency. Responds to emergent situations such as natural disasters, civil unrest, or other tactical situations. Appears in court to testify in legal proceedings. Performs community‑based policing, interacts with residents, and engages in collaborative problem solving. Performs other duties as assigned. Specialized Duties (if assigned) Patrol operation, investigation of suspected criminal activity, traffic incidents, and evidence collection. Staffing correctional or court‑facility assignments, including inmate supervision and security tasks. Executing specialized training or oversight of other officers. Providing assistance as a bailiff or in other court‑related duties. Selection Requirements Age: at least 21 years at the time of application. Legal authorization to work in the United States. Valid California Class "C" driver license (non‑expired). Drivers with previous suspensions or revocations disqualify. Two years of continuous peace‑officer experience, or completion of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department academy within the last three years. Current or valid California P.O.S.T. certificate, or proof of eligibility issued by P.O.S.T. Applicable officer training certificates (Reserve Module I or II). Physical fitness to meet the exigencies of the role; successful completion of a physical ability test. Physical Requirements Must be in good general physical condition and free from medical conditions that interfere with job duties. Vision: minimum 20/70 unaided in each eye, correctable to 20/30; color perception of normal quantity. Hearing: no greater than a 25 dB loss in the better ear and no greater than a 35 dB loss in the worse ear; peak loss limits apply. #J-18808-Ljbffr County of Los Angeles
