The salary range listed represents a broad salary range for this position. It is anticipated that this position will begin at $4,907.00 per month, depending upon internal equity, experience, education, and training. Position is eligible to receive shift differential pay for all applicable hours.

Note: Work hours for these three positions will be Monday through Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Tuesday through Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. M ay be required to work occasional shifts outside of the regular shift to meet department needs. Successful candidate must be able to follow verbal communications and be able to read and comprehend written directions. Also, must be able to interpret written directives, policies, and memos. An essential function of this position requires the individual to exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. It also requires constant or frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, and depth perception. You must be able to perform this level of physical exertion and essential functions in order to be considered for this position. This position will wear personal protection equipment and standardized uniforms.
*Shift Differentials will be paid to employees in eligible classes as published in the State's annual pay plan.
Regular rate applies when work hours fall between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (no shift differential).
Second shift differential rate (7.5%) applies when half or more of the scheduled work hours fall between 4:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
Third shift differential rate (14%) applies when half or more of the scheduled work hours fall between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Weekend differential rate (20%) applies when more than half of the scheduled shift hours fall on a weekend shift. Weekend shifts start at 4:00 pm Friday through 6:00 am Monday.

Description of Job
Your application must provide a detailed description of your relevant work experience in relation to the following duties: This full-time position is located in the Security Department at the Community College of Aurora. Campus Safety Officers provide safety and security for the 5 campus buildings and parking lots, assisting the campus community with a wide variety of problems and concerns, providing first response to campus emergencies and disruptions, and crowd and traffic control. Maintain a high level of sensitivity and confidentiality at all times.
Patrolling and Call Responses
Conduct security patrols of campus and all College buildings and facilities on foot or by other means (i.e. patrol car, bicycle, etc.) and provide stationary security post duties as assigned. Respond to all calls for service directed by radio, telephone and/or supervisory and management personnel of the Security Department. Designs and leads campus safety patrol initiatives. Ensure that security supervisory and management personnel are notified in a proper and timely manner of breaches of security occurring on College properties or of information received that may create a security risk for College properties such as trespassers and contact local law enforcement as appropriate. Assume control of situations on campus until emergency responders arrive.
Investigations and Reporting
Provide initial response to emergencies and incidents on campus and complete initial investigations to determine disposition. Conduct investigations of security matters on campus. Write complete, accurate and timely reports to record campus incidents and document investigations and maintains logs relating to activity on campus. This requires strong oral and written communication skills to include basic computer and typing proficiency. Originate and file written reports utilizing computer aided reporting systems, regarding activities and incidents occurring on College properties and information received from other sources pertaining to security or incidents on properties or within the community. Properly report and track incidents on campus for the supervisor to include in the federally mandated Clery reports. Work with law enforcement to preserve evidence in incidents that may be criminal in nature.
Enforcement
Control the flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic on campus property. Enforce all College rules and regulations on College properties owned or leased as specified in Standard Operating Procedures. Challenge trespassers, loiterers, errant vehicle operators and all others who create a safety and security risk to students and staff and threaten the overall security and integrity of the physical assets and property of the College including violations of the student code of conduct. In situations where an incident may be criminal in nature and poses an immediate threat to the safety or security of students or staff, authorized personnel may temporarily detain individuals involved using appropriate and approved methods as a last resort. Respond to and assist in resolving conflicts and confrontations on campus. Assist with crowd control as needed. Issue campus parking tickets. Direct persons creating a disruption, safety or security risk, or those in unauthorized areas to leave campus, escort them off premises, or call law enforcement.
Emergency Responses
Assist in evacuating faculty, staff, and students during emergencies. Must provide emergency response and first aid as needed. Serve as initial responder when dealing with emergency situations such as tornados, floods, bomb threats, lock downs, etc., following proper procedures for lock down, secure, evacuate, shelter and hold. Ensure standard response protocol is current and accurate and update as needed. Immediately issue Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications during emergencies as appropriate. Respond and manage all types of emergencies until the arrival of outside agencies. Maintain required certifications in emergency response areas as required by the College and federal or state law or regulation.
Equipment Maintenance and Use
Exercise proper care and maintenance of all College owned or leased equipment including vehicles assigned to or utilized for duty. Maintain a high level of proficiency in the proper use of authorized protection tools (batons, hand cuffs, pepper spray, radio, etc.) Maintain in-depth knowledge and high level proficiency with campus safety and security systems. Must successfully complete and maintain certification and required recertification in all
applicable areas as determined by the College and state law.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience Only:
Three (3) years of work experience in security, campus safety or law enforcement as the primary function of the job. Do not use "SEE RESUME" statements on application; your application must be completed in detail and clearly document your relevant work experience. (Part time experience will be pro-rated).
OR
Education and Experience:
C ollege, university or non-correspondence business school course work from an accredited institution in Law Enforcement or similar field may substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis. A copy of your transcript verifying the required credits must be received by application deadline in order to be considered. Redact your age-related information on your transcript.
Highly Desirable: The highly desirable candidate will possess the following: Strong oral and written communication skills. Experience and ability to work with diverse groups of people. Understand and determine appropriate rules and regulations from various sources. Attention to detail. Excellent c ustomer service interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Conditions of Employment: Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license to operate campus vehicles. Must be able obtain the First Aid/CPR/AED certification within six (6) months of hire if not already certified. Must submit to and successfully complete a post offer, pre-employment background check, physical, agility and drug test. Must be 21 years of age. Successful candidate must be trained and able to use special equipment such as a taser, pepper spray, handcuffs, and ASIST training within six months of appointment and provide documentation. Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to the job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges and convictions, it is your responsibility to provide Community College of Aurora, Office of Human Resources with an official disposition of the charges. An essential function of this position requires the individual to exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
