Description:
The Surgical Technician assists other members of the healthcare team in delivering patient care during the intra-operative period.
The major focus of this position is on the preparation and handling of instrumentation and surgical equipment while assisting the surgeon during surgical procedures.
This individual is responsible for administering care and using equipment applications based on the age and needs of the patient population served, which include neonates through geriatrics.
The Surgical Technician must be knowledgeable about specific procedures or specialties.
This role requires effective prioritization, planning, and problem-solving skills due to the changing nature of the work situation during surgical procedures.
The individual must have the ability to recognize the need for immediate response during urgent or emergency situations.
Basic knowledge of medical terminology, the metric system, and aseptic technique is required, applying this knowledge in all patient and family interactions.
Key responsibilities include displaying aseptic technique to ensure positive patient outcomes.
Responsibility for the care, preparation, handling, and maintenance of surgical instrumentation is essential.
The Surgical Technician consistently performs sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy and procedure.
Demonstrating knowledge and adherence to professional standards of practice is required.
