Billing Specialist – Patient Accounts
Help patients navigate their healthcare balances with professionalism, compassion, and confidence.
Alabama Pain Physicians is seeking a Billing Specialist to join our growing team. This position is ideal for someone with strong customer service skills and medical billing knowledge who enjoys helping patients understand their accounts and resolve billing questions.
As the first point of contact for many billing-related inquiries, you'll play an important role in creating a positive patient experience while ensuring account balances are addressed accurately and efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Answer incoming patient calls regarding account balances, billing questions, and payment options.
- Review patient accounts to explain charges, insurance processing, and outstanding balances.
- Process patient payments and establish payment arrangements in accordance with company policies.
- Research and resolve billing concerns by working with insurance carriers, providers, and internal departments.
- Document all patient interactions accurately within the practice management system.
- Assist patients with billing statements and insurance-related questions.
- Follow up on patient account issues to ensure timely resolution.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Provide exceptional customer service while handling sensitive financial conversations.
Qualifications
- Previous medical billing or medical office experience preferred.
- Excellent customer service and telephone communication skills.
- Knowledge of insurance benefits, EOBs, deductibles, copays, and coinsurance preferred.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency with computers and electronic medical record systems.
- Professional, compassionate, and patient-focused demeanor.
