Our rich diversity of people and ideas makes us a stronger, more innovative organization.The Biological Lead will support and report directly to the project Environmental Manager. The Biological Lead will coordinate with on-site construction personnel and other environmental staff. As a Biological Lead they will ensure overall environmental compliance monitoring is upheld in accordance with project rules and regulations.Responsibilities:Participates in pre-, during-, and post-construction monitoring and developmentWorks with construction management and government agencies to ensure comprehensive environmental compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and project specific permit conditions throughout all phases of transmission line constructionCompletes pre-construction surveys within the project right-of-way and surrounding areasProvides environmental orientation to personnelMonitors the Project area for species of concernPlans daily and weekly work schedulesAssists with field crew coordinationAssists with development of survey protocolConducts botanical monitoring and managementInspects, evaluates, and amends project best management practices (BMP's) in accordance with the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan and contractual requirementsParticipates in daily and weekly look-ahead meetingsPrepares and maintains daily and/or weekly reportsPerforms daily and weekly field inspections to identify areas of potential risk related to permit requirementsReads and understands all Project permits and authorizations in order to effectively enforce them and ensures they are executed as requiredStrictly adheres to Owner's environmental policies and proceduresAssists in inspection of activities for compliance with all environmental laws and regulations, including right-of-way grant/special-use authorization, POD, permits and landowner agreementsIdentifies sensitive resources and areas of concern prior to construction activities and coordinates with construction crewsIdentifies/documents potential environmental concerns/non-compliances and reports concerns to Environmental ManagerParticipates in daily tailboard discussions and leads Site Specific Environmental Review discussions with field personnelServes as technical resource to construction personnel to explain environmental regulations and how they are applied to specific situationsVerifies construction work areas, access roads, and features are properly marked and flagged prior to initiation of workUtilizes computers, tablets and GPS units to perform data collection and analysis for the projectServes as field POC for third-party field monitorsIdentifies, documents and oversees corrective actions to resolve noncompliance issuesInspects erosion control measures to ensure functionality and communicates erosion control maintenance requirements to BMP Crew ForemanInspects and documents reclamation and revegetation activitiesMaintains good communications with the Owner's Construction Inspection team, the EC Source Environmental Inspectors, third party environmental personnel, and work crewsAttends and participates in meetings with field personnel and construction personnelEnsures the installation flagging, and signage per project requirements to delineate environmental sensitive areasBuilds and distributes environmental supplies to construction personnel or along the ROW, such as, spill kitsQualifications:Bachelor's Degree in biology, environmental science, natural resources, wildlife biology, or related discipline requiredMust have a valid driver's licenseStrong organizational and document management skillsAbility to multitask and maintain effectiveness with multiple prioritiesAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionAbility to read and understand permits and authorizations to effectively enforce themProfessional attitudeDetail-oriented and high attention to accuracySolid mathematical skillsComfortable working in a field-based positionDemonstrated written and verbal skillsStrong computer skills and a significant understanding of Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Acrobat, Google Earth, and othersAdaptable to changing work conditionsAbility to plan and prioritize workloadComfortable working around heavy equipment and active constructionAbility to work flexible hours & open to extensive travel throughout NevadaReliable and punctualPreferred Qualifications:2-5 years of professional experience in the environmental compliance and/or construction fieldsStrong understanding of applicable environmental laws, environmental best management practices, field construction practices, employee environmental training, and working with local, state and federal land management agenciesExperience working with plants and wildlife in NevadaExperience monitoring transmission line constructionExperience working with sensitive avian speciesStrong botanical knowledge40-hour HAZWOPER CISEC or CESSWI Stormwater CertificationOSHA 10 CertificationPhysical Demands:Must be able to lift 40-50 lbs.Must be able to traverse challenging terrain to perform inspectionsCapable of working in adverse environmental conditions such as high temperatures or other outdoor elementsAble to withstand long hours in the field
