Optional materials include teaching philosophy, teaching evaluations, and/or letters of recommendation. Responsibilities The primary responsibility of a faculty member is teaching. This includes normal instructional activities beyond the teaching of assigned courses such as academic advising, working with students outside of class, posting and maintaining appropriate office hours, course and curriculum planning, and related duties. Additional responsibilities and expectations may include: Preparation and direct instruction of courses. Assessment of student work, including written and verbal communication. Providing student contact outside of class via office hours, appointments, or email. Offering complex concepts to diverse learners and answering questions in real time. Demonstrating and executing complex procedures and utilizing specialized equipment safely. Participating in program and institutional administrative, committee, and student support activities. Maintaining currency in the discipline through professional development. When appointed to multiple terms, engaging in additional service and scholarly or creative activities as appropriate. Minimum Qualifications Adjunct Instructor (term‑by‑term): Master’s or terminal degree in the discipline taught or related field; OR a bachelor’s degree with equivalent professional experience. Demonstrated teaching potential. Familiarity with the appropriate equipment for the discipline. Adjunct Assistant Professor: terminal degree in the discipline taught or related field; OR a master’s degree and progress toward a terminal degree. Preferred Qualifications Adjunct Instructor (term‑by‑term): Master’s degree in the discipline taught or related field. Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and active participation in academic life. Commitment to student learning, retention, support, and assessment. Adjunct Assistant Professor: demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, record of scholarship, and engagement in professional activities. Professional experience equating to one academic year of full‑time college teaching, or equivalent part‑time teaching during graduate study. Duties (100%) In addition to teaching and service, incumbents are expected to participate in scholarly or creative activities, mentor student research projects, and manage practical aspects of lab or workshop instruction. Physical characteristics of the job include standing, sitting, work at a computer, and lecturing. Special conditions may include First Year Seminar, online or hybrid courses, Medford and Ashland campus classes, and day, evening, and weekend courses. Travel and off‑site training may be required. Must be willing to work additional hours and satisfy background check requirements. This position is FLSA exempt.
