Job Description
Perform a variety of routine clerical, administrative, and technical work in receiving and dispatching routine and emergency information. Keeping official records and assisting in the administration of the standard operating policies and procedures of the dispatch center.
Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
Dispatch police and other response vehicles for emergency and non-emergency responses; broadcast nature, location, and time of incident. Contact all required personnel and other local concerns such as the fire department in the event of an emergency situation. Insure the presence of reserve units by contacting personnel designated for on-call and relay information as required. Utilizing the department's computer aided dispatch (CAD), the dispatcher must maintain logs on radio, telephone and computer communications; location of personnel and equipment; in the event of an emergency situation: maintain on-going contact with the responding personnel and keep them informed of all incoming pertinent information; keeps track of various information such as traffic lights out, streets closed, etc., and keeps emergency personnel informed. Maintains accountability of all officers at all times, for their safety and safety of others. Notifies supervisory personnel of any emergency situation or condition which would require the reassignment of additional officers needed to provide for the public safety (i.e., notifies the shift commander of any major incident or natural disaster) Disseminates motor vehicle, driver license, criminal record information, and monitors TTY's forwarding information to officers as necessary. Monitor telephone (including 911 lines) and radio console (multiple radio channels) in the communications center, answering all incoming calls and ascertain nature of call gathering all necessary information to formulate an appropriate police or fire response. Verify and update Criminal Information Bureau (CIB) files when additional information is received regarding a wanted person; checks with originating agency or our file to verify that the warrant/commitment is still valid prior to confirming same with arresting officer/agency. Inputs data to standard office and department forms, both manual and automated; makes simple postings to various reports; compiles and tabulates data. Maintains dispatch documents and records. Assist citizens who come into the station who wish to make a complaint, pay a ticket, speak with an officer, and obtain open records or for other reasons by asking perceptive questions and treating them with professionalism and courtesy. Other Duties and Responsibilities Process monies for fines, sale of licenses and permits, balances the cash register and forwards deposit to the village treasurer. Monitor all security cameras, door alarms and garage doors for building security. Assist in the training of new hires. Monitor all weather warning systems and 911 phone system. Maintain communications bureau work area and equipment in clean and working condition. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Education/Experience: Any combination equivalent to education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to possession of a high school diploma or GED. Must be at least 18 years old. Other Qualifications: Ability to report to work on time. Ability to be available for work. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information. Ability to adjust to change in the organization.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Ability to read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy & procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence and reports; to apply common sense understanding in carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide two digit numbers and perform those functions using American currency. Ability to answer multiple incoming emergency and non-emergency calls both via telephones or radio and formulate appropriate police/fire response. Knowledge acquired on the job and must be retained and kept most current; not limited to Federal Communications regulations governing law enforcement, knowledge of policies, practices and techniques of law enforcement communications; working knowledge of State laws, village ordinances and other laws/rules pertinent to law enforcement; general working knowledge of computers and basic programs such as Windows, Word, Excel and knowledge of office practice and procedures. Must have the skill to function in a sustained stressful environment; while maintaining an effective working relationship with staff members; and a professional, courteous manner with the general public. Ability to monitor several conversations at the same time and retain key information relative to the conversations; ability to research and obtain pertinent information through various resources; perform responsible dispatching/clerical work requiring independent judgment with speed and accuracy; learning, interpreting and applying organizational policies, rules and laws and taking responsibility for the work product. Must be able to use the computerized telephone system. Must have proficient ability in data entry and typing reports.
Benefits
Health Insurance: The Village's plan offered is subject to change each calendar year. Employee is eligible for coverage on the first day of the month following their date of employment. Employee contributes 12% toward monthly premium. The Village offers a $3,000 annual opt-out payment if the employee does not enroll in the insurance due to having other coverage. Dental Insurance: The Village offers 4 different dental plan options. Specific plan offered is subject to change each calendar year. Employee is eligible for coverage on the first day of the month following their date of employment. Vision Insurance: Employee is automatically enrolled in a vision plan that is employer paid if they are enrolled in the health insurance. Employee is eligible for coverage on the first day of the month following their date of employment. FSA: Voluntary enrollment in flexible spending for costs for health and dependent care. Pension: Wisconsin Retirement Fund. Equal contribution from employee and employer, percentage set by the State annually. In 2026 the employer will contribute 7.20% and the employee 7.20%. Deferred Compensation: Optional enrollment in a deferred compensation plan for additional retirement savings. Life Insurance: Basic Life insurance equal to annual salary. Paid for by the Village through the Wisconsin Retirement System. Effective on the first of the month after 30 days of service. Holidays: Paid Holidays Vacation: 1st year: 1 week 2- 4 years: 2 weeks 5-7 years: 2 weeks and 2 days 8 - 14 years: 3 weeks 15 - 19 years: 4 weeks 20 years: 4 weeks and 1 day 21 years: 4 weeks and 2 days 22 years: 4 weeks and 3 days 23 years: 4 weeks and 4 days 24 years and above: 5 weeks Sick Leave: 1 day per month (accumulated for a total not to exceed 165 days.
