An inventory clerk tracks the flow of goods in warehouses, retail, lots, or stockrooms by recording, auditing, and organizing stock. Key duties include managing inventory data, processing shipments, and reconciling counts, requiring high attention to detail and physical stamina. Candidates typically need a high school diploma, basic computer skills, and ability to lift 25-50 lbs.
Key Responsibilities
- Inventory Control: Count, classify, and organize merchandise, ensuring stockroom accuracy.
- Data Management: Perform data entry to update inventory levels, using systems like Excel, SAP, or Oracle.
- Shipment Handling: Receive, unpack, and verify incoming shipments, and prepare items for outgoing orders.
- Reporting & Auditing: Identify discrepancies, such as shortages or damage, and report them to management.
- Stock Maintenance: Replenish shelves, tag items, and maintain a clean, organized storage area.
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience: Previous experience in warehousing, shipping, or logistics is preferred (often 6 months to 2 years).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with inventory management software.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Soft Skills: Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and good communication skills.
