General Maintenance WorkerThe General Maintenance Worker provides custodial services for Normandale Community College's buildings and grounds. Buildings are assigned on a yearly rotation schedule but the actual work site is the entire campus. This position plays an important role in making Normandale a clean, welcoming, and safe environment for students, employees, and the community. Hours may vary, depending on the role and special projects. Most positions are Monday-Friday, with occasional Saturdays. This position will actively advance the college's strategic goals, including to achieve equity in educational outcomes and to support a culturally responsive and service-oriented culture, through individual and departmental efforts.Minimum Qualifications:Knowledge of different types of flooring/floor covering, sufficient to determine proper methods of cleaning and maintenance, and appropriate materials, agents, and equipment to useKnowledge of chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents and soaps, sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle, apply and dispose of safelyKnowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively, operate safely and to make minor repairsAbility to follow simple oral and written instructionsAbility to perform assigned tasks with limited work directionAbility to keep simple recordsAbility to perform a variety of physical tasks, lift and carry materials weighing 25 pounds and team lift 40-60 pounds (and occasionally more)Ability to work above ground level, such as, on ladders and scaffoldingAbility to work in adverse weather conditionsPreferred:Six months or more of work experience in Higher Education or a similar settingExperience maintaining a work environment that respects and values differences and diversityAbility to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, managers and othersExperience providing excellent customer serviceNormandale is the largest community college in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, annually serving almost 15,000 students from a diverse set of backgrounds.
