Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Bulk Carrier Sales professional to join a growing transportation organization with a significant presence in bulk and tanker freight.

This is a hands-on carrier sales role focused on developing carrier capacity, booking freight, building strong carrier relationships, and expanding the company's carrier network. The ideal candidate is a true freight brokerage professional who understands how to find the right equipment, identify quality carriers, work efficiently in the market, and build capacity in challenging lanes.

The company handles a significant amount of bulk/tanker freight, including fuel and oil transportation, making prior bulk carrier sales experience highly valuable.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a strong network of bulk and tanker carriers.
• Source, qualify, and secure carrier capacity for customer freight.
• Efficiently identify available trucks and match the appropriate equipment to customer requirements.
• Build and maintain relationships with carriers across multiple regions and geographic markets.
• Understand carrier capabilities, preferred lanes, equipment types, and geographic strengths.
• Communicate effectively with carriers to obtain capacity, negotiate rates, and book shipments.
• Proactively identify new carrier opportunities to expand capacity and improve coverage.
• Research the carrier market to identify opportunities for additional capacity and improved margins.
• Utilize the company's TMS and technology tools to capture and maintain carrier information.
• Maintain accurate carrier data, including operating regions, equipment, capabilities, and performance information.
• Monitor market conditions and carrier availability to support pricing and capacity decisions.
• Develop relationships with new carriers while strengthening existing carrier partnerships.
• Support the operations team by ensuring loads are covered efficiently and accurately.
• Help identify opportunities to improve carrier coverage, service, and profitability.
• Work collaboratively with operations, sales, and leadership to meet customer transportation requirements.
• Utilize available technology and AI-enabled tools to improve carrier sourcing and capacity management.

You should understand:

• How to effectively "dial for diesel" and find available capacity.
• How to identify and qualify good carriers.
• Which carriers operate in specific regions and lanes.
• How to determine appropriate equipment for a shipment.
• How to communicate with carriers efficiently while still gathering useful market intelligence.
• How to build and maintain a reliable carrier network.
• How to use transportation technology and data to improve carrier sourcing.
• How carrier availability and pricing affect margins and customer service.

Bulk / Tanker Experience

Bulk or tanker transportation experience is strongly preferred.

Experience with the following is particularly valuable:

• Bulk transportation
• Tanker freight
• Fuel transportation
• Oil transportation
• Liquid bulk
• Dry bulk
• Bulk commodities
• Specialized bulk equipment
• Carrier capacity management

Candidates with strong dry van or other truckload carrier sales experience may also be considered if they demonstrate strong carrier-development skills and the ability to learn the bulk market.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in freight brokerage, carrier sales, capacity management, or transportation operations.
• Strong carrier relationships and demonstrated ability to develop new carrier capacity.
• Bulk/tanker experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of carrier equipment and geographic markets.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Ability to quickly identify capacity and efficiently book trucks.
• Strong understanding of transportation pricing and carrier markets.
• Comfortable working with a TMS and transportation technology platforms.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to analyze carrier and market data and use it to make informed capacity decisions.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing market conditions.
• Ability to balance speed and efficiency with strong carrier relationships.
