Field Service Technician - PV

Job TitleThis role supports areas of field Service operation within Sungrow USA related to commissioning, warranty, and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of the expanding installed sites in the region.Reporting to the regional field service supervisor, this position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and commissioning support of PV inverters and ancillary equipment/ systems, usually at the customer's site or at a staging yard/warehouse. This position will comply with the Safety Mandate, "ZERO HARM," to ensure safe and efficient work and operation of the facility for all personnel and equipment. Ensures that personnel and safety issues are given priority to maintaining a safe and efficient working environment. Implements and enforces safety management policy and procedures regarding the facility: safety information, hazard analysis, safe operations/Maintenance Training, subcontractor compliance, plant integrity, work permits, emergency planning, and response.Duties and Responsibilities:Perform a variety of technical assignments involving the installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of string and central solar inverter and/or BESS Systems, PCS, batteries, and ancillary equipment.Perform general troubleshooting and diagnosis under Sungrow's maintenance and repair guidelines.Support and perform pre-commissioning (with and without grid emulator) and commissioning of solar inverters and BESS systems within schedule and work plansAdditionally, for those on O&M capacity, perform Preventive Maintenance and other Long Term Service Agreement (LTSA) activities per the contractInvestigate solar plant issues such as DC array grid faults, inverter design issues, and utility grid transients. For BESS positions, these investigations may also involve SOC checks and module /component-level troubleshooting, replacement of electrical/electronic parts, SW version updates, etc.Provide feedback to the engineering and project team on possible mechanical and electrical design improvements.Lead upgrade/rework projects (software and hardware) in the field and interact with customers to explain the project's technical scope and manage work schedule and commitments.Work with customer SCADA engineers to set up systems communication and parameters involving Sungrow's controllers and F&G systems as needed.Accurately describes troubleshooting sequences and procedures which they have observedIdentifies and documents basic mechanical and electrical issues and problemsPerforms basic corrective maintenanceCreate/modify Field Service procedures for safety troubleshooting and maintenance if required.When using contractors on sites, act as the Lead to ensure the contractors submit daily activity reports and JSA reports and work follows Sungrow standards and expectations.Prepare and submit own Daily Activity Reports and Daily JSA Reports.Work independently in the field and with Design Engineers to resolve high-level technical issues, support the investigation of the root cause for technology applications for complex projectsCoordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistic, financial, and program management disciplines to maintain the solar plant operations.Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.Completes documentation in a timely and organized fashionFollow level-appropriate standard operating procedures.Own creation and submission of all field paperwork and documentation for full compliance with site documentation and project requirementServe as a safety second if needed.Education or Desired License and Certificates:Associate's Degree in an Engineering or Computer Science Discipline from an accredited university or collegeRenewable industry experience is desiredPower Electronics experience is desiredOSHA 10 certificate within 12 months of date of hireNFPA 70e certificate within 12 months of date of hireCompetencies:Perform essential job functions using proper techniques that may include lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling tools, equipment, and materials.Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.Engage in frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching during field assignments.Work in a variety of field environments, including confined spaces, uneven surfaces, and varying weather conditions.Follow all company safety policies and training requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).Comprehend Job Hazard Analysis and conduct level-appropriate Job Hazard Analysis.Designated as Authorized Person for LOTO.Minimum Requirements:Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPointMotivated self-starter with complex problem-solving abilities.A 'completer-finisher' taking accountability for ideas from inception to delivery in an environment that requires robust metrics to confirm the success.Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of partners, senior managers, and subject matter experts.3 plus years of overall experience in a technical field2 years of experience in solar inverters or BESSMust possess the ability to work with test equipment and hand tools as required.Must be able to closely follow instructions and pre-established procedures/SOP to perform the ductions of the jobMust be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)OSHA, NFPA70A, Electrical SafetyExperience and/or certification with MV transformers a plusMust have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.Travel:80% PlusWork Location and Status:Contract role, Bowling Green, KY areaNo visa/legal sponsorshipCompensation:Compensation commensurate with experienceCompetitive benefits package and employee programsStrong personal and company growth opportunitiesFor candidates in the states of California, Colorado, New York and Washington, the anticipated base pay for this role is between $39 to $45 per hour plus OT. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for.
