What You'll Do

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) , you will provide compassionate, person-centered support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential and community-based settings. Your role will help individuals achieve greater independence, improve their quality of life, and actively participate in their communities.

Key ResponsibilitiesDirect Support & Daily Living Assistance

• Assist individuals with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, grooming, bathing, dressing, meal preparation, housekeeping, laundry, shopping, and budgeting.
• Support individuals in developing independence, self-determination, and daily living skills.
• Promote dignity, respect, choice, and person-centered care.
• Encourage participation in recreational, educational, vocational, and community activities.
• Create a safe, supportive, and welcoming living environment.
• Provide guidance and supervision consistent with individualized support plans.

Health, Safety & Wellness

• Support the health, safety, and overall well-being of individuals served.
• Observe and report changes in physical, emotional, or behavioral conditions.
• Assist with healthcare and wellness plans.
• Administer medications and maintain required documentation in accordance with regulations and agency policies.
• Respond appropriately to crisis situations using approved intervention techniques.
• Report incidents, safety concerns, and suspected abuse or neglect in accordance with agency requirements.
• Provide trauma-informed care and support.

Skill Development & Goal Achievement

• Implement Individual Service Plans (ISPs), Individual Habilitation Plans (IHPs), and Behavior Support Plans (BSPs).
• Teach and reinforce independent living, social, community integration, and self-care skills.
• Support individuals in achieving personal goals and measurable outcomes.
• Collaborate with supervisors, clinical staff, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure quality services.

Community Participation & Transportation

• Provide transportation and support to medical appointments, day programs, employment sites, recreational activities, family visits, religious services, and community events.
• Assist individuals in accessing community resources and opportunities.
• Promote meaningful community inclusion and engagement.

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including:
  • Daily logs
  • Medication Administration Records (MARs)
  • Goal tracking
  • Incident reports
  • Behavioral documentation
  • Vehicle logs
  • Consumer funds documentation
  • Other required program records
• Follow all agency, licensing, and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in audits, inspections, and quality assurance activities as required.

QualificationsRequired

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Minimum age of 21 years.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Ability to maintain accurate documentation and records.
• Successful completion of required background checks, clearances, and drug screening.

Preferred

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Behavioral Health, or a related field.
• Six months to one year of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• Experience in residential, behavioral health, or community-based settings.
• CPR, First Aid, and Medication Administration certifications, or the ability to obtain certifications upon hire.

Schedule

• Full-Time and Part-Time Opportunities Available
• Flexible schedules based on program needs
• May include days, evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays, and emergency coverage
• On-call responsibilities may be required

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, transfer, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds or more as needed.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and climb stairs regularly.
• Ability to assist individuals with mobility and personal care needs.
• Ability to drive agency vehicles and transport individuals safely.
• Ability to respond appropriately during emergencies and crisis situations.
• Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
