Overview Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Emergency Department. Full-time 12‑hour shifts are available: Day, Evening, and Night. A sign‑on bonus of up to $20,000 is available for qualified candidates. Full‑time nurses will have 16 hours of required call per 6 weeks; part‑time nurses will have 12 hours. Emergency Department The 37‑bed ED includes a dedicated 5‑bed Behavioral Health Safe Suite. Approximately 53,000 visits per year (~150/day). The unit is supported by the Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance landing pad. 2 years of hospital‑based RN experience is preferred. Education Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required) Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is preferred Certification & Licensure Registered Nursing License (required) ACLS required prior to completion of orientation PALS required prior to completion of orientation BLS required within 90 days of hire Experience 2 years of Emergency Room experience (preferred) Critical care experience in hospital preferred 2 years of acute care Registered Nurse experience preferred Manages complex cases in fast‑paced environments Communicates with patients and providers Responsibilities The Registered Nurse will play a critical role in delivering high‑quality, compassionate care to a diverse patient population. Responsibilities include conducting thorough assessments, designing and implementing personalized care plans, administering medications and treatments, and evaluating patient responses to interventions. The RN will work closely with an interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care and ensure continuity throughout the treatment process. The RN will educate patients and their families about health conditions, treatments, and post‑discharge care, empowering them to make informed decisions. The RN will monitor and record vital signs, observe changes in patient conditions, and respond promptly with appropriate interventions. Utilizing sound clinical judgment, the RN will address complex health situations, consult with medical team members as needed, and document all care in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards. The RN is expected to uphold the highest standards of patient safety, adhere to evidence‑based protocols, and contribute to a supportive and empathetic environment. As a patient advocate, the RN will work tirelessly to ensure each patient’s comfort, dignity, and well‑being while fostering trust and a sense of security.
