Senior Transportation Planner

Unmatched Comp Time Policy: Hours worked over 40 in a week are paid at the usual hourly rate or can be banked as additional PTO. We are seeking a Senior Transportation Planner with experience in transportation planning to support and help lead active transportation, trail, and multimodal projects across Utah and the Intermountain West. This role is ideal for a planner who enjoys both technical and planning-level work, and who is passionate about improving mobility, connectivity, and quality of life through trails, shared-use paths, and complete streets.

Core Responsibilities for the Role:

• Lead and support the planning and development of active transportation facilities, including shared-use paths, trails, bike lanes, and complete streets
• Manage corridor studies, concept studies, active transportation plans, feasibility studies, and NEPA/PEL-related planning efforts
• Prepare and review technical memoranda, reports, and planning documents for transportation and trail projects
• Lead and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including traffic, drainage, roadway, structures, utilities, and right-of-way
• Lead project management activities, including scope, schedule, budget, and quality control
• Analyze transportation, land use, and mobility data to inform planning recommendations
• Assist with and play a key role in public and stakeholder engagement efforts, including meetings, workshops, and presentations
• Communicate technical information clearly through strong written deliverables and verbal presentations
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative team environment
• Lead business development and client relationship efforts as appropriate

Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:

• Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related field (required)
• 15+ years of experience in transportation planning and/or multimodal project development
• Experience managing active transportation, trails, or multimodal projects
• Strong understanding of current national and local guidelines, particularly for bicycle and pedestrian facilities
• Proficiency in GIS and/or transportation planning and analysis tools
• Experience preparing and reviewing technical reports, studies, and planning documentation
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to clients, stakeholders, and public audiences
• Ability to work across multiple phases of planning projects
• Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
