Mechanical EngineerBarry-Wehmiller Converting is growing, and we currently have Mechanical Engineer positions available at all levels. These are primarily onsite roles at our Green Bay facility, and onsite and hybrid opportunities are also available in Waukesha and Madison.Consideration for a specific level and team will be determined through the interview process based. Candidates will likely meet with multiple team leaders in a streamlined process to determine best fit.Relocation assistance may be available for candidates outside of a commutable distance to one of our facilities.The Mechanical Engineer (Levels I-IV) performs engineering duties related to the design, development, and modification of machines, systems, and components in support of the business segment. This role applies sound engineering principles with consideration for manufacturing feasibility, cost, safety, and operational performance with supervision appropriate to the level of experience. Responsibilities include designing, analyzing, testing, installing, and supporting mechanically functioning equipment.Essential Functions:Develop concepts for new machine functions, enhancements, and upgrades.Create technical solutions, detailed designs, and assembly drawings.Interface with suppliers to clarify system functionality and technical requirements.Support Purchasing in evaluating technical proposals, costs, and supplier capabilities.Develop and maintain product concept catalogs and specification workbooks.Read, interpret, and apply information from blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical guidance.Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other technical data to evaluate feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements.Specify system components or direct product modifications to ensure compliance with engineering design and performance specifications.Investigate equipment failures, diagnose root causes, and recommend corrective actions to maintenance teams.Perform assigned work independently under minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.Education & Experience:Bachelor's degree (4-year) in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or related technical field required.Minimum of 0-2 years of related experience for Mechanical Engineer I position up to a minimum of 8 years of experience in manufacturing in an Engineering role required for Mechanical Engineer IV.Proficient to advanced proficiency with high-level functionality in 3D CAD (SolidWorks/PDM and/or Autodesk Inventor/Vault)OEM experience in machine component design is preferred.Experience in hygiene, personal care, or roll converting industries is a plus.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:Demonstrated experience supporting or leading project teams and contributing to project management activities.Ability to solve complex engineering problems and escalate only the most critical issues.Strong foundational knowledge of mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes, and machine systems.Effective written and verbal communication skills.Willingness and ability to travel up to 15% as required.Design/alteration of moderately complex machines, sections, systems or unitsPrepare layouts using CAD toolsEvaluation of moderately complex designs; make engineering changesPrepare BOM, assembly drawings/schematics using CAD for moderately complex equipmentAssist in supporting manufacturing/assembly teamsSupport field teams with technical assistance as requiredOther duties as assignedCompetences:Customer Focus – Building strong customer relationships and delivering customer-centric solutions.Instills Trust – Gaining the confidence and trust of others through honesty, integrity, and authenticity.Drives Results - Consistently achieving results, even under tough circumstances.Communicates Effectively - Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.Optimizes Work Processes - Knowing the most effective and efficient processes to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement.Resourcefulness- Adapts to changing circumstances and priorities; effectively copes with unexpected interruptions, delays, and demands.Decision Quality – Making good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward.Plans and Aligns – Planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals.Action-Oriented - Taking on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm.Work Environment/Physical Demands:Typically sits, grasps items and performs keyboarding for frequent operation of a computerStand, walk, bend, reach or otherwise move about regularlyLift, move, or otherwise transfer items up to 40 lbs. occasionally, >20 lbs. frequentlyOccasional exposure to typical machine shop physical hazardsTravel by air or car occasionallyThis job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by team members within this classification.
