The Machinist ll   is responsible for end-to-end setup, programming, and precision machining of piece parts on modern CNC equipment. This experienced individual will take ownership over one of our Haas, Mazak, DMG Mori, Okuma Horizontal or Vertical mills and/or our sub-spindle turning center using modern CAM software and the machine control to program and machine tight tolerance piece parts. This team member needs to have an elevated understanding of the full machining process, including but not limited to quality, productivity and cost. You will work in a clean, air-conditioned shop where efficiency and safety are paramount.
Essential Job Duties
  • Verifies operations to be performed and material to be used on each job as directed by the standard work, or appropriate Supervisor or Manager.
  • Sets up and programs CNC equipment using modern techniques, machine control and CAM software.
  • Independently troubleshoots CNC programs on machine control.
  • Proven expertise reading blueprints and machine precision piece parts accordingly.
  • Ability to select appropriate tools to machine close tolerance piece parts and trouble shoot tooling issues.
  • Indicate, modify and troubleshoot tools to produce products to specification.
  • Support problem-solving small group activities and help to improve efficiencies in a group of machines.
  • Able to train and help onboard new machinists to learn Specialty Manufacturing processes quickly.
  • Operates machines and produces consistent quality parts to specifications in the time frame allowed.
  • Uses measuring devices and blueprints to inspect parts for quality. 
  • Uses hand tools, grinders, abrasives and other special deburring tools to remove sharp edges from machine surfaces.
  • Accurately completes all required paperwork at completion of job.
  • Perform Inspections as called out to ensure product specifications are met
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area.
  • Performs routine autonomous machine maintenance.
  • Any other duties as assigned by management.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 2-year Technical Degree highly preferred
Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience: 8+ years of CNC experience 
  • Education: High School Diploma required; Technical Degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proven understanding and application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, metric measurements, measuring devices and inspection equipment, shop math, problem solving, and mechanical aptitude
  • Attributes: High level of creativity for new product development and strong attention to detail.
  • Physical: Ability to stand for long periods, lift 50 lbs, and work in a loud environment.
Work Environment
  • Works in manufacturing environment with all daily activities taking place within our Machine Shop
  • May require periodic travel
  • All work is to be performed on site during normal business hours
Expected Compensation Range: Non-Exempt- $30-$40 per hour
Specialty Manufacturing is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position. Based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, actual compensation may fall slightly lower or higher than indicated range.
