Job Description

The Press Operator I is responsible for running a brake press or automatic press, with assistance, to produce parts that meet specifications and productivity standards. This role includes support functions for automatic presses such as inspecting and boxing parts. The position operates on the 1st shift from 6 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

• Produce parts to meet customer specifications for quality and quantity.

• Update the production log daily.

• Perform and document preventive maintenance of dies.

• Maintain work area, equipment, and tools in a clean and orderly condition while following safety regulations.

• Inspect parts during production for scratches, scores, or dings; report quality issues to the Stampings Supervisor or Quality Manager.

• Replace details as necessary to ensure good quality parts are produced.

• Load parts into boxes, bins, or drums and label them with correct part and quantity.

• Plan ahead for steel and shipping containers to keep machines running efficiently.

• Comply with procedures for starting a press run, die changeover, and scrap management.

• Detect and report problems such as defective materials or questionable conditions.

• Ensure accuracy and completion of lots, heats, quantity, and claims in Global Shop and Smart Pack.

• Operate a powered industrial truck (forklift) as needed.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

• Experience with stamping press operations.

• Basic math skills.

• Ability to read and write in English.

• Ability to judge spatial relationships and use logic.

• Basic mechanical inclination.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to work well with minimal direct supervision.

• Effective time management skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively with others.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Coopersville, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.75/hr.
