Director, Principal Software Engineer - Strategic Engineering

Pfizer seeks a Director and Principal Software Engineer to lead strategic engineering initiatives across the organization. This role bridges technology strategy and delivery, overseeing code quality, architecture decisions, and AI-augmented engineering practices while mentoring technical leaders and driving business impact.
Responsibilities
- Lead forward-deployed engineering pods responsible for critical technical initiatives and ELT projects
- Define strategic technical direction and organizational architecture practices across the function
- Develop technical leaders, shape talent strategy, and build high-performing engineering teams
- Design AI-augmented engineering workflows, evaluate AI tools, and mentor engineers on effective AI usage
- Establish reliability standards (SLOs/SLIs), drive reliability initiatives, and mentor on best practices
Requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in full-stack development across multiple programming languages
- Proven track record leading engineering teams and developing technical talent
- Deep experience with data integration, enterprise architecture, and large-scale systems
- Executive-level communication skills and ability to represent engineering to C-suite
- Recognized thought leadership in software engineering practices or innovation
- Experience designing and implementing AI-augmented development workflows
