Assistant: Decision Making Room - Southern Middle Title Code: C21049 Job Summary Responsible for the delivery of intervention strategies, protocols, social skills instruction and techniques for students exhibiting a variety of disruptive, challenging, and/or aggressive behavior in secondary schools who are referred to the Decision Making Rooms (DMR). The role involves implementing and using behavioral intervention techniques to de‑escalate, monitor, and control disruptive behaviors, utilizing behavior management techniques, and teaching social‑skills replacement behaviors to enable students to perform successfully in school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Works directly with students in small groups and individually to implement instructional programs, plans, and activities for students who are disruptive to the educational environment. Teaches social skills for replacement behaviors that contribute to disruptive, challenging behaviors. Monitors student behaviors as they return to the classroom through follow‑up with the referring teachers and provides feedback and suggestions for successful functioning in classrooms. Participates in training of school staff on the development of Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavioral Intervention Plans. Provides support to school staff on Cooperative Discipline Techniques. Implements Second Step in the DMR, keeps daily records and logs, completes daily data tracking, and uses the data for decision making for students referred to the DMR. Assists students with development of re‑entry plans following the DMR referral. Uses intervention techniques to help students de‑escalate, including non‑violent crisis intervention (CPI). Assists in the re‑establishment of relations between students and referring teachers, mediates, and resolves issues or difficulties to create a cohesive learning environment in which every student participates and feels comfortable. Participates in ongoing staff development. Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required. Experience: Two (2) years experience required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics: Considerable patience and ability to work with students with challenging behaviors. Willingness to learn and implement instructional methods, strategies, and techniques to assist students. Ability to exercise patience, courtesy, tact and good judgment in dealing with challenging students. Ability to establish effective and cooperative working relations with professional and support staff. Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations. Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g., Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint). Licenses and Certifications Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment. Hold or be eligible for Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification issued by AACPS/Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) preferred; or Hold or be eligible for Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Certification issued by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Inc. preferred.
