Manufacturing Safety Specialist – Multi-Site Job Description The Manufacturing Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting, implementing, and continuously improving safety programs across multiple manufacturing sites. This role partners with site leaders, operations, maintenance, engineering, and employees to reduce risk, ensure regulatory compliance, strengthen safety culture, and drive consistent safety practices across all assigned locations. Key Responsibilities Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments at assigned manufacturing sites to identify hazards, unsafe behaviors, and compliance gaps. Develop, implement, and standardize safety policies, procedures, programs, and work instructions across multiple locations. Partner with site leadership to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, local, and company safety requirements. Lead or support incident, injury, near-miss, and property damage investigations using root cause analysis and corrective action tracking. Develop and deliver safety training for employees, supervisors, contractors, and new hires, including hazard communication, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, PPE, emergency response, ergonomics, forklift/powered industrial truck safety, and other site-specific topics. Monitor corrective actions to completion and verify effectiveness through follow-up reviews and field observations. Maintain accurate safety documentation, including inspection reports, training records, incident reports, OSHA logs, safety metrics, and regulatory records. Support safety committees, toolbox talks, employee engagement activities, and behavior-based safety initiatives. Review new equipment, process changes, layout changes, and capital projects for safety risks and recommend controls. Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, HR, and leadership to integrate safety into daily work practices and continuous improvement initiatives. Track leading and lagging safety indicators, identify trends across sites, and prepare reports for management review. Assist with emergency preparedness planning, drills, contractor safety, chemical safety, industrial hygiene activities, and environmental compliance support as needed. Serve as a visible safety resource on the manufacturing floor and promote a proactive, accountable, and employee-centered safety culture. Multi-Site Scope This position supports multiple manufacturing locations and requires regular travel between sites. The Specialist will help align site-level safety practices with company standards while recognizing each facility’s unique risks, workforce needs, equipment, and operational priorities. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered. Three or more years of safety experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or related environment. Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and common manufacturing safety programs, including lockout/tagout, machine guarding, hazard communication, PPE, confined space, powered industrial trucks, and emergency preparedness. Experience conducting audits, inspections, risk assessments, safety training, and incident investigations. Strong communication, coaching, documentation, and follow-up skills. Ability to influence employees and leaders at all levels without direct authority. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management systems or incident tracking tools. Ability to travel regularly between assigned manufacturing sites. Preferred Qualifications OSHA 30-Hour certification or equivalent safety training. ASP, CSP, CIH, CHMM, or other relevant safety or environmental certification. Experience supporting safety programs across multiple facilities, business units, or shifts. Experience with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, behavioral safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene sampling, contractor safety, or environmental compliance. Core Competencies Practical knowledge of manufacturing hazards and safety controls. Strong field presence and willingness to spend time on the production floor. Analytical approach to risk identification, data review, and corrective action management. Ability to balance regulatory compliance with practical operational solutions. Clear, confident communication with hourly employees, supervisors, managers, and external parties. High integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to continuous improvement. Physical Requirements Work is performed in office and manufacturing environments, including production floors, warehouses, maintenance areas, and outdoor areas as needed. May be exposed to noise, moving equipment, chemicals, varying temperatures, and other manufacturing-related conditions while using appropriate PPE. Requires walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending, and conducting floor-level observations for extended periods.
