FT - Code Compliance Inspector

Compensation - $25.20/hr Position open until filled. Brief Description To investigate potential violations of municipal and state laws, ordinances, codes, and regulations relating to nuisance abatement of weeds, rubbish, junk, junk vehicles, open private sewer lines, failed on-site sewage facilities, and illegal dumping on vacant, residential and commercial properties. This position requires independent judgment and responsibility. If Licensed As A Peace Officer Under the direction of the City Marshal, serves as a peace officer of the City with full police authority in the exercise of assigned duties (pursuant to Tex. Code Crim. Proc. Ann. art. 2.12(3) and Ordinance No. OR10-2016-52); enforces federal and state laws, and all rules, regulations and ordinances adopted by the City Council; executes warrants of arrest, subpoenas, summons, and other legal process issued by a judge of the municipal court; and performs other duties as assigned by the City Marshal or designee. Deputy Marshals are not covered under the Municipal Civil Service provisions of Tex. Loc. Gov’t Code Chapter 143. Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of state and local codes in order to identify violations of public health nuisance complaints (i.e. grass, junk, junk vehicles, abandoned appliances, debris, stagnant swimming pools, and illegal disposals) and must possess the ability to read and interpret ordinances, state laws, reports and updates Knowledge of or demonstrated ability to learn other city ordinances (Sign Ordinance, Garage Sale Ordinance, Zoning Ordinances) Skill in developing periodic reports and correspondence Skill in communicating ideas, concepts and terminology effectively to other staff and the public through oral and written means Skill in solving problems Ability to detect potential safety hazards upon visual inspection of buildings and structures Ability to complete a variety of written reports and citations, which may be used in a court of law Ability to foresee and respond to potentially dangerous situations and respond accordingly Ability to pass a background investigation for security clearance Skill in the use of firearms, defense tactics and related law enforcement equipment Ability to maintain firearms qualification and other required training Education and Experience High school graduate or equivalent and a Licensed Texas Code Enforcement Officer and at least 2 years of experience in a code enforcement related field; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities Certificates and Licenses Required A valid Class C Texas driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record Will be required to be registered as a Code Enforcement Officer in Training within six (6) months of employment Will be required to be licensed as a Code Enforcement Officer within eighteen (18) months of employment Will be required to obtain National Crime Information Center and Texas Crime Information Center certifications within six (6) months of employment Optional: May be commissioned as a Deputy City Marshal if licensed as a Texas Peace Officer Environmental Factors and Safety Hazards Primarily in an outdoor environment with the ability to operate indoors when needed. May be exposed to extreme heat and cold during summer and winter months. Potential issues with safety in daily activities and onsite location inspections. May work in emergency situations with exposure to difficult circumstances, including exposure to dangerous situations, hazardous situations and all weather conditions. May travel to sites outside of the City. Tools and Equipment Used Standard office equipment including multi-line telephone, computer, fax machine, copier, scanner, shredder, printer, mobile devices, two-way radio, etc. Ability to operate or drive an automobile or pickup truck, tow a utility or flatbed trailer behind a pickup truck, hand tools (rakes, hammers, saws) If licensed peace officer; mobile data terminals, audio/video recorders, firearms, batons, electroshock weapons, handcuffs and other law enforcement-related equipment. #J-18808-Ljbffr City of Cleburne
