Assistant Director of Health Promotion

Assistant Director of Health Promotion Supports Claremont McKenna College students in developing a lifelong commitment to their health and well‑being through education, outreach, peer leadership, and student support. The role adopts a holistic approach, designing and delivering health promotion initiatives that address alcohol and drug use, sexual health, healthy relationships, nutrition, and mental/emotional wellbeing. Responsibilities Design, implement, and evaluate evidence‑based health promotion programs that support student wellbeing and healthy decision‑making. Deliver presentations, workshops, and trainings for students, student leaders, faculty, staff, and families on topics relevant to college student health and wellbeing. Develop and maintain health education materials across multiple platforms (digital content, print materials, web resources). Recruit, train, and supervise Student Peer Health Ambassadors (PHAs); provide ongoing training, mentorship, and feedback to support effective programming. Collaborate with PHAs and other student organizations to plan and implement health promotion initiatives and events. Support the Dean of Students Office mental health case‑management system: meet with students, identify needs, connect them with campus and community resources, and document interactions in the Maxient Case Management System. Maintain ongoing communication with students to support progress, encourage self‑advocacy, and promote wellbeing. Collaborate with colleagues in the Dean of Students Office and campus partners to evaluate student wellbeing and academic trends and create responsive programming. Support restorative and educational interventions related to student conduct or health‑related concerns, as appropriate. Apply harm reduction, public health frameworks, and inclusive practices in all programming and outreach efforts. Maintain a working knowledge of relevant policies, regulations, and best practices related to student mental health and wellbeing. Partner with campus and 7C consortium colleagues to support coordinated, holistic approaches to student wellbeing. Serve on committees and working groups as needed to advance health promotion and student support initiatives. Maintain a visible, approachable presence on campus, including participation in programs that may occur during evenings or weekends. Demonstrate ability to take and follow directions, work cooperatively with others, respond to constructive criticism, display a positive attitude, balance multiple tasks and priorities, and perform other essential duties specific to the position. Qualifications Education: Master’s degree completed or in progress, preferably in higher education, public health, social work, counseling, or a related health or mental health field. Combination of education and experience may also satisfy this requirement. Experience: Minimum of two (2) years working with adolescents or college populations in health promotion/education, mental health services, and/or program development. Leadership experience in a graduate program or similar setting may count towards the required experience. License: Valid driver’s license or equivalent transportation for off‑site meetings and events. Knowledge, skills, and abilities: communication, engagement, and rapport building with diverse individuals; cultural sensitivity; interpersonal and collaboration skills; confidentiality principles; empathy and discretion with sensitive matters; public speaking; graphic design and social media; familiarity with health and wellbeing issues relevant to a college population. Benefits Salary Range: $70,304 – $73,000 per year. Full‑time, 12‑month, exempt position with benefits eligibility. Regular hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required. Supervisory responsibility: Supervises four or more Student Peer Health Ambassadors.
