Peer Support Specialist I Position: Peer Support Specialist I Job Type: Pool / Non-Exempt Shift Details: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (must be available for 2–12 hour shifts per month) Work Location: Crisis - Franklin County Crisis Care Center; Columbus, Ohio Salary/Hourly Wage: $17.00 - $20.00/hour Summary of Job The Peer Support Specialist I provides support and recovery training to individuals receiving services and assists in implementing a recovery environment and advocates for every individual's needs and rights. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Guest Care & Advocacy Provide peer support to engage individuals in recovery partnership and assist in identifying participant hopes, dreams and solutions sought. Teach recovery and life skills using recovery tools. Model hope, personal responsibility and self-advocacy. Assist in developing natural supports and community living. Cultivate connectedness in the person's life. Compliance & Risk Management Complete clinical documentation as required. Keep abreast of state/federal regulations and RI policies. Adhere to RI compliance standards. Cross Functional Collaboration Coordinate with clinical team and other supports to arrange services or resources. Additional Duties Perform other related duties as assigned. Job Requirements Education/Licenses Successful completion of Peer Employment Training and obtain Peer Support Specialist certification. High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience Lived experience requiring mental health and/or substance use services. Skills Basic computer skills. Ability to teach/retrain recovery information and tools. Effective communication skills. Must pass de‑escalation training. Driving Requirements If required: meet driving policy; if not, submit Non‑Driver Attestation. Miscellaneous Requirements Applicants at least 18 years old unless state regulation differs. Travel required. Maintain confidentiality (HIPAA). Second‑chance employer; pass background check, substance testing, fingerprinting clearance, education verification, and motor‑vehicle report if driving. Physical Demands May include work close to eyes, wrist, hand motions; frequent sitting, standing, walking; lifting up to 20 pounds. Work Environment May work in office or behavioral health facility; may have contact with agitated/confused individuals. Remote Warmline Peer Support Specialist will work remotely. State Requirements Arizona: Must be 21 years or older. Louisiana: Must be 24 years or older. Ohio: Proof of active Peer Support Certification required. Washington: Additional specified state registration for Registered Agency Affiliated Counselor (AAC).
