COSS Support Specialist, Gaston County

Position Overview The County Support Specialist is a member of the staff of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service (NCCES) and provides specialized office support, program marketing assistance, and other administrative duties for Extension program areas. The role requires independence, strong computer and marketing skills, excellent customer service, and basic accounting skills. Responsibilities Provide support to Extension staff and volunteers as assigned. Assist with program marketing, marketing and media pieces, social media management, and newsletter design. Handle fees, write receipts, and perform basic fiscal management according to NCSU and county government procedures. Greet office visitors, answer phones, take messages, and provide customer service. Work effectively with co‑workers to accomplish organizational goals, coordinate tasks, and cover office during staff lunch breaks. Backup Administrative Assistant and other staff as needed. Qualifications High school graduation and a minimum of two years of office assistance and secretarial experience, or equivalent training and experience. Extensive knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite. Strong organizational skills, ability to multitask, and willingness to learn new software. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and customer service ability. Ability to work independently with a high degree of accountability. Valid North Carolina driver’s license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained; personal transportation required. Additional Requirements Physical requirements: none. Commercial driver’s license not required. Compensation Starting salary: $32,562, commensurate with experience.
