Avtec Finishing is hiring an experienced Production Supervisor to lead our second-shift manufacturing team.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who enjoys developing employees, solving production problems, improving processes, and creating an environment where people can succeed. You will be a visible presence on the production floorsetting expectations, coaching employees, removing obstacles, and holding the team accountable for safety, quality, productivity, attendance, and on-time delivery.
Our metal-finishing operations support customers in the medical, aerospace, defense, and industrial manufacturing industries, where consistent processes, dependable delivery, and attention to detail are essential.

Things to Know Before You Apply
We want candidates to understand the position and workplace expectations before applying:
- This is a second-shift position working Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
- Initial training will take place on first shift. Candidates must be available to temporarily work first-shift hours during the training period.
- Overtime may be required based on production and business needs.
- This is an active, hands-on manufacturing leadership role that requires a regular presence on the production floor.
- The work environment may include heat, humidity, noise, dust, odors, and controlled chemical exposure.
- Employees must consistently follow all safety procedures and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Personal mobile devices must remain secured during working time and may be accessed only during authorized breaks in designated areas due to customer and security requirements.
- Dependable attendance is essential. Supervisors are expected to set the standard for their teams.
- Interviews are conducted in person at our New Hope, Minnesota facility. We do not conduct virtual interviews.
- Applicants who currently live outside Minnesota should have definite relocation plans and be prepared to describe those plans during the application process.
Position Overview
The Production Supervisor leads second-shift manufacturing operations by overseeing employee performance, staffing, production schedules, safety, quality, productivity, and continuous-improvement activities.
This position works closely with production employees, management, Quality, Maintenance, Shipping, and other departments to meet customer requirements while maintaining a safe, respectful, accountable, and productive work environment.
The Production Supervisor is expected to balance the needs of employees, customers, and the operation while making fair, timely, and consistent decisions.
What Youll Do
Lead and Develop Employees
- Provide visible, hands-on leadership throughout the shift.
- Set clear expectations and hold employees accountable for performance, safety, quality, attendance, and workplace conduct.
- Coach employees through regular feedback, recognition, redirection, and performance discussions.
- Train new employees and support the continued development of existing team members.
- Address employee concerns professionally, consistently, and respectfully.
- Build trust while maintaining appropriate accountability.
- Promote teamwork, ownership, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Model the attendance, communication, conduct, and work standards expected from the team.
Manage Production
- Assign work and adjust staffing based on production priorities, available resources, and customer requirements.
- Monitor productivity, labor performance, workflow, quality, and schedule attainment.
- Maintain an active presence on the production floor and identify obstacles affecting performance.
- Coordinate priorities and production needs with other supervisors and departments.
- Communicate shift status, production updates, staffing needs, and operational concerns to management.
- Maintain accurate production records, employee documentation, and other required information.
- Make timely decisions and adjust plans as production needs change.
Support Safety and Quality
- Conduct regular floor inspections to confirm that safety, quality, housekeeping, and operating standards are being maintained.
- Ensure employees follow work instructions, safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies.
- Respond appropriately to safety, quality, equipment, staffing, and production concerns.
- Investigate production issues and help identify root causes.
- Implement and follow through on corrective actions.
- Escalate concerns promptly when additional support or authority is needed.
- Partner with Quality, Maintenance, Shipping, and other departments to resolve problems and improve performance.
Improve Operations
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, efficiency, workflow, training, and employee performance.
- Participate in continuous-improvement activities and support the implementation of process changes.
- Help prevent recurring problems by ensuring corrective actions are understood and sustained.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications
- At least five years of manufacturing or production leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing production employees.
- Experience managing production schedules, staffing, quality, productivity, and employee performance.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective when production needs change or problems arise.
- Ability to communicate expectations, feedback, and operational information clearly.
- Ability to read blueprints and use basic measuring tools.
- Ability to maintain accurate production and employee documentation.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English for work instructions, safety information, training, documentation, and workplace communication.
- Dependable attendance and the ability to consistently work the posted schedule.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications
- College degree in manufacturing, engineering, business, or a related field.
- Previous experience in metal finishing, plating, or another process-manufacturing environment.
- Lean manufacturing or continuous-improvement experience.
- CEF or NASF certification, or willingness to obtain certification.
- HAZWOPER or hazardous-waste training.
- Forklift certification.
Candidates who meet the required leadership qualifications but do not have metal-finishing experience are still encouraged to apply. Industry-specific training may be provided to the right manufacturing leader.
