Southeast: Always the Right Career DirectionA Urology Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice provider specializing in the comprehensive care of patients with conditions affecting patients' urinary tract and the male reproductive system. Working collaboratively with urologists and the multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Urology NP provides advanced nursing care across the continuum of care in a variety of specialized settings. The Urology NP plays a critical role in improving patient outcomes related to common and complex urologic issues.Essential FunctionsManages and treats patients with common and complex urological conditions, focusing on clinical excellence, patient education, and collaboration.Conducts physical examinations on patients and evaluates symptoms related to voiding patterns, sexual health, pain, and continence.Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic and screening tests, such as lab work, and imaging studies.Diagnoses, treats, and manages the health care needs of patients with neurological conditions, referring to physicians when medically appropriate.Consults and collaborates with urologists, primary care providers, and other specialists to ensure coordinated and holistic patient care.Performs or assists with minor office-based procedures as credentialed, (such as: catheterizations, cystoscopy, bladder instillations and injections, and prostate biopsies.)Coordinates follow-up care and referrals.Compiles and evaluate medical history, physical findings and diagnostic data to include but not limited to radiographic, laboratory, ultrasound, EKG, EEG, CT and nuclear scans, MRI and MRA studies on all patients to formulate accurate diagnoses.Monitors medications and initiates appropriate therapies and alters medications according to variations in a patient's response within established protocols.Provides and documents patient education regarding adherence to complex treatment pathways, medications, and community resources.
