Senior Counsel: Operations and Pharmacy Legal

Senior Counsel role supporting AbbVie's Operations and specialty Pharmacy teams with legal guidance on regulatory compliance, controlled substance management, and commercial contracts. Position requires pharmaceutical or healthcare legal expertise and direct experience advising on pharmacy-related matters.
Responsibilities
- Provide proactive legal counsel to cross-functional teams on commercial, regulatory, and operational issues
- Review, draft, negotiate, and manage commercial contracts ensuring legal compliance and strategic alignment
- Advise specialty pharmacy team on federal and state pharmacy laws, DEA regulations, and controlled substance management
- Support pharmacy licensure applications, renewals, compliance audits, and coordinate with Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance
- Develop and maintain pharmacy operating procedures, policies, and training materials reflecting current legal requirements
Requirements
- Juris Doctor from accredited law school and active law license in New Jersey
- Minimum 5+ years in-house pharmaceutical, law firm life sciences, or government agency legal experience
- Experience advising on pharmacy-related legal matters and regulatory compliance
- Ability to assess legal risk in real-time and communicate complex issues to business partners
- Strong written and verbal communication skills translating legal complexity to business context
