Pay and Benefits Hourly Range – $41.00 - $48.00 per hour Medical, Dental, Vision benefits available day 1 of employment Supplemental benefits available on day 30 of employment Eligible for 401 (k) with a company match available on day 90 of employment Educational Support via tuition reimbursement and scholarship program Work Shift and Location Monday - Friday Job Overview The Wastewater Treatment Supervisor plays a key role in executing assigned Wastewater tasks. This includes monitoring, operating, and maintaining dissolved air flotation wastewater treatment systems for assigned locations while ensuring continued compliance with applicable permits. Key Responsibilities Support primary wastewater pre-treatment operations at the East Syracuse location and periodically travel via personal vehicle (compensated) to support operations located in Cortlandville NY. Serve as direct supervisor for Wastewater Tech(s) at BDW. Includes time management (timesheet approvals, PTO requests, etc.), annual reviews, employee development (e.g. IDP, training), accountability management, coaching and mentoring, conflict resolution, disciplinary actions and compensation recommendations. Monitor and operate wastewater systems/equipment in person and remotely to track performance and adjust, as needed. Be on-call to support wastewater treatment operations after-hours and on weekends or assign an appropriate knowledgeable designee for support. Ensure operability of probes monitoring the systems including calibration/ maintenance/ repair/ replacement. Clean and maintain system equipment and facilities. Troubleshoot and work with Maintenance and Engineering staff to correct and improve equipment issues. Work with and train plant Maintenance personnel and Wastewater Techs on system operation. Possess mechanical ability to perform basic maintenance and replacement tasks on wastewater treatment operational equipment. Ensure Preventative Maintenance Tasks (PMs) assigned to the wastewater treatment systems are completed timely and appropriately. Work with chemical and equipment suppliers to optimize system performance. Ensure an adequate inventory of all wastewater treatment chemicals is maintained at site so treatment is not interrupted. Ensure an adequate inventory of supplies is maintained for the treatment system/building (e.g. pH buffers, gloves, brushes, other supplies). Work with Maintenance Parts Specialist to order replacement parts and ensure necessary spare parts are on hand, as needed, to prevent interruption of wastewater treatment operations. Coordinate regulatory required sampling and calibration events and compile data. Includes getting Purchase Orders generated for the work and reviewing/approving invoices. Trend system data and prepare system monitoring reports for submittal to regulatory agencies and site leadership. Maintain current operating permit for BDW wastewater treatment system. Includes submitting renewal applications and information when needed. Support preparation of permit modifications when needed based on changing conditions, e.g., increased flow. Provide notifications to agencies as required by permits when violations occur and ensure appropriate responses (e.g. re-sampling, corrective actions) are completed in a timely manner. Collect plant operational data for submittals to regulatory agencies and provide notification to leadership in a timely manner of system upsets that affect permit compliance. Track levels in BDW sludge and Python silos and ensure that shipments are made, as necessary, so as not to interrupt operations. Includes coordination with Byrne Universal Logistics and vendor haulers, as necessary. Also includes compiling and tracking paperwork associated with orders and waste shipments, including invoice review and approval. Serve as point-of-contact for sludge disposal facilities, including reviewing and approving invoices and responding to any issues that arise with shipment of Byrne wastes to these locations. Serve as point of contact with vendors used for maintaining wastewater pits. Includes scheduling, overseeing work and approving invoices. Prepare reports for (Self-Monitoring, Weekly) and ensure timely submittal. Includes ensuring that necessary data is compiled and maintained. Work with Engineering on expansions/upgrades of wastewater treatment systems to ensure operability and performance needs are met. Complete First Report of Incident for any injury, illness, near miss, close call, property damage, fire, spill or security event related to wastewater treatment system operations. Lead Root Cause Analysis of any significant incidents or near misses associated with wastewater systems operation or maintenance. Work with EHS Director to prepare proposed annual budget for operating the BDW wastewater treatment system, including chemicals, sludge transport and disposal (including pit cleanouts), sewer surcharges and laboratory/calibration costs. Complete tasks in support of the Environmental, Health & Safety department, as assigned. Support work tasks with the BDW Maintenance Utilities Group, as assigned. Min. Qualifications A minimum of GED or High School Diploma is required. Associate degree or higher in biology or science related field preferred. Minimum 3 years’ experience working with wastewater systems, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
