Landscape Services Supervisor Job Details Location: UT MAIN CAMPUS Weekly Scheduled Hours: 40 FLSA Status: Exempt from FLSA Earliest Start Date: Immediately Position Duration: Expected to Continue Purpose Provide leadership and hands‑on oversight for the care, maintenance, and enhancement of landscaped grounds and plant materials at The University of Texas at Austin. The role plans, coordinates, and supervises grounds maintenance operations including mowing, edging, planting, irrigation repair, fertilization, pruning, and overall landscape upkeep. It ensures campus grounds are safe, attractive, and functional while managing staff assignments, equipment, materials, and resources to support long‑range landscaping goals and departmental objectives. Responsibilities Assures university landscape is maintained to established standards, including turf, shrub, irrigation systems, and hardscape. Directs several landscaping crews in the performance of landscaping tasks, including detailed record‑keeping, performance evaluations, time‑keeping, and disciplinary actions. Monitors UT Works workbench for Landscape Services and completes appropriate work orders; enters daily labor records into the UT Works database. Purchases supplies and materials to support project installation and university landscape functions in accordance with university policies and procedures. Maintains crew work schedule, completes routine paperwork, performs performance evaluations, maintains employee sign‑in sheets, approves weekly electronic time reports, logs vehicle mileage, and verifies daily labor in UT Works. Supports campus events on the West side of campus such as Commencement and football home games; attends meetings, works overtime, coordinates labor, and provides other required support. Wears appropriate personal protective equipment and ensures crew members wear PPE, follows safety rules, and maintains safe working conditions. Performs other related duties, including collaboration with other departments within the Campus Operations portfolio and occasional overtime as needed to support organizational goals and objectives. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or a related field, or equivalent experience. Five years of landscape maintenance experience with four years of supervisory experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team, communicate with university staff and contacts, maintain a stable work history and work ethic. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Ability to obtain a Texas Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator’s License within six months. Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree in Horticulture or a related field. More than eight years of landscape maintenance experience. More than four years of supervisory experience. Specific training, coursework, or credentials in grounds and landscape trade (e.g., ISA, PGMS, TCEQ, TNLA). Experience working in a university or municipal setting. Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of work‑order management systems. Successful completion of a leadership development program. Working Conditions Uniform or PPE required All weather conditions, extreme temperatures, chemical fumes, electrical/mechanical hazards Standard office duties, keyboard use, manual dexterity, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting and moving up to 50 pounds Work Shift 40 hours per week, 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; fully in‑person. Salary $62,000 plus experience.
