Certified Nurse Assistant (C.N.A)

The Certified Nurse Assistant (C.N.A) assists staff members in implementing the total resident/patient plan of care. This includes activities of daily living such as eating, dressing, personal care, toileting, education, recreation, and transportation, all in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of the nursing department.

The C.N.A is directly responsible to the RN/LPN team leader and is expected to maintain resident/patient privacy and confidentiality while performing duties in compliance with the organization's policies and procedures.

Education Requirements

• Must hold an active C.N.A License in Maine.

Key Responsibilities

• Assists with all resident/patient routine activities of daily living, including feeding, bathing, ambulating, and skin care.
• Demonstrates effective listening skills to support resident/patient needs.
• Measures and reports initial vital signs and weights to nursing staff in a timely manner.
• Reports changes in vital signs or measurements promptly to the Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
• Follows Universal Precautions procedures at all times.
• Monitors and records resident/patient intake and output in accordance with unit standards or physician orders.
• Maintains confidentiality of resident/patient-related issues while supporting resident/patient rights.
• Maintains productive working relationships with healthcare team members.
• Exhibits teamwork, courtesy, diplomacy, and tact when interacting with others.
• Provides additional care as directed by the RN/LPN.
• Assists in orienting patients/residents/family to the unit and services.
• Delivers patient/resident care promptly and accurately as directed by the RN/LPN and in accordance with the plan of care.
• Demonstrates empathy towards residents, patients, and families.
• Remains objective in challenging circumstances, including interactions with demanding residents and patients.
• Demonstrates flexibility as needed.
• Seeks assistance and collaborates in developing solutions for problems.
• Exhibits passion for providing excellent care to long-term care residents and skilled rehabilitation patients.

Shift Information

Schedule: 5 x 8, 40 hrs/week

Holiday Coverage Required: Yes

Experience Requirements

Minimum of 3 years of experience required.
