We are looking for a Senior Quantum Field Engineer to lead IonQ’s efforts in building the best quantum solutions for the Bioscience vertical and solving the world’s most complex problems. This team sits at the intersection of customers, markets, products, algorithms, applications, innovation, and strategy. Responsibilities Inspire prospective clients by explaining IonQ’s strategy, portfolio, and answering technical questions about quantum products and applications. Lead and shepherd client discussions to illustrate how quantum applications can be implemented in their business domain. Map quantum algorithms—focused on biosciences, chemistry, materials, optimization, generative AI, and other domains—into application code and execute proof‑of‑concepts with the IonQ Application team. Share client insights with Product Management and Engineering teams to incorporate feedback into product development. Navigate competitive objection handling and translate business needs into technical work projects. Create assets that explain features of our quantum applications and products. Guide dialogues from initial ideation through focused exploration, proof‑of‑concept, and into production workflows. Lead client discovery sessions for business‑oriented use cases that uncover overlap with quantum algorithm development. Partner with marketing, developer relations, and business development to grow IonQ awareness worldwide. Attend industry conferences and support booth activities as needed. Travel 20% domestically; global travel opportunities are available. Perform this technical, customer‑facing role with a balance of base salary and success acceleration. You’d be a good fit with 5+ years of experience in the biosciences industry, leading technology initiatives and innovation. Bachelor’s degree or higher in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or other STEM fields such as Physics or Engineering. Motivated learner with a strong passion for applied quantum mechanics across computing, networking, security, and sensing. You’d be a great fit with Master’s or PhD in a STEM field, preferably adjacent to quantum computing. 5+ years in a technical customer‑facing role or equivalent capacity. Hands‑on experience with Qiskit, Cirq, or other quantum computing SDKs. Proficiency in Python and Jupyter Notebooks. Expert architecture skills across various technologies (“full‑stack skills”). Experience leading technical events. Location This position can work onsite or hybrid from one of our offices or fully remote in the U.S. or Canada. Travel Up to 20% domestic and global travel. Compensation The approximate base salary range is $192,979 – $252,659 USD, plus bonus and equity.
