About the Position

Job Title

Registered Nurse – Whole House Float (ICU / PCU / Med-Surg)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights | 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM

Key Responsibilities

• Float between ICU, PCU, and Med-Surg units based on staffing needs, which are re-evaluated every four hours — candidates must be comfortable working all three specialties
• Provide skilled nursing care including IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, central line care, arterial line management, and blood product administration
• Manage airway support including nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, ventilator management , trach management, and chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac)
• Monitor cardiac rhythms, administer continuous IV sedation, titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips, and respond to emergency medication needs
• Document all patient care accurately using EPIC
• Adhere to weekend requirements (every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block) and work at least one holiday per 13-week contract

Required Qualifications

• Active Virginia state RN license or active Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
• ACLS , BLS , and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience at a large Level I or Level II facility
• Must be proficient and comfortable working at ratios of at least 1:5
• EPIC experience required
• Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are not eligible; candidates residing 50–99.9 miles away may be considered for one 13-week assignment with no eligibility to extend

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience working in a high-acuity, large academic or teaching hospital environment
• Comfort managing rapid unit transitions and adapting quickly to varying patient populations and acuity levels
• Prior travel nursing experience in multi-specialty float roles
