POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a reliable, hands-on Marine Equipment Technician Assistant to support the maintenance, service, and repair of member watercraft and marina equipment. This role assists our Marine Equipment Technician with everything from engine service and hull upkeep to boat lifts and launch operations. No certifications are required, but hands-on mechanical experience - and a willingness to learn marine-specific systems - is a must.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist the Marine Equipment Technician with routine maintenance, service, and repair of boats, pontoons, and other member watercraft
• Support inboard and outboard engine maintenance, including oil and fluid changes, filter replacement, and basic troubleshooting
• Assist with hull cleaning, detailing, and general cosmetic upkeep of watercraft
• Help maintain boat lifts, hoists, trailers, and launch equipment in safe working order
• Support seasonal preparation and winterization of vessels and marine equipment
• Assist in diagnosing basic mechanical, electrical, and fuel system issues on watercraft
• Help transport, launch, and secure boats and watercraft as needed
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop and dock work area
• Track parts, supplies, and maintenance records for serviced equipment
• Communicate clearly with the Marine Equipment Technician and Outdoor Pursuits team on job status and needs
• Follow all safety guidelines when working on, near, or around the water, docks, and equipment
• Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to support member needs
• Perform other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent required; marine mechanic certification a plus but not required
• Prior hands-on experience with boat engines (inboard/outboard), small engine repair, or general mechanical work strongly preferred
• Familiarity with marine systems - fuel, electrical, steering, or trailers - a plus
• Comfortable learning marine-specific maintenance tasks on the job
• Strong troubleshooting instincts and mechanical aptitude
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Comfortable working on, near, and around the water
• Valid driver's license; experience towing trailers a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds
• Frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching, including in and around boats and docks
• Comfortable working on docks, boat lifts, and near or on the water
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
• Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat and cold, and occasionally wet conditions
• Ability to swim or work comfortably around open water
