Recreation Fee Technician

Summary You will serve as a Recreation Fee Technician at Yellowstone National Park. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions. You will work from approximately mid-April to mid-November and then from mid-December to mid-March. You will be in a non-pay status for approximately one month in the spring and one month in the fall. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate. Major Duties Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc. The incumbent performs assignments in accordance with all regulations governing the handling of government funds and separation of duties. Assist supervisory staff in the performance of clerical and technical work that is associated with the collection, deposit, tracking, and expenditure of fee revenue and donations collected from the public under the authority of Federal laws and regulations such as the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (FLREA). Provide informal and formal training and education to employees, partners, volunteers, interns, cooperating association representatives, etc. regarding automated and non-automated fee processes, systems, software programs, tools, etc. Education This position does not allow substituting education for experience. Physical Demands: This position requires standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, and lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, and other emergency response duties. Work Environment: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations. This position is located at the West Entrance in West Yellowstone, Montana located 49 miles south of park headquarters.
