Address: 8303 Dodge St, Omaha, NE Work Schedule: Full Time (36 hours) Nights Are you a new graduate or an experienced Med-Surg RN ready to take the next step in your nursing journey? Our Bridge to Higher Acuity II Program - PCU to ICU offers a supportive pathway to help you build the advanced skills and confidence needed to care for critically ill patients. You'll begin on the night shift in one of our Progressive Care Units (PCUs), where you'll strengthen your clinical judgment, sharpen critical thinking, and care for higher-acuity patients in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. With support from leadership and clinical educators, you'll develop an individualized plan to bridge into the ICU as your skills and confidence grow. Once fully trained in both areas, you will carry a dual role between the PCU and ICU-broadening your experience while supporting the evolving needs of the hospital and its patients. This flexible program allows you to grow at your own pace while receiving ongoing mentorship and clinical guidance every step of the way. Responsibilities:

Essential Functions 1. Provide appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient, to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the Population Specific Criteria.
- Demonstrate ability to identify opportunities for and give individualized customer service/patient care according to customer/patient needs.
- Include data from the patient/significant other(s) in the assessment as appropriate.
- Prioritize data collection according to patient's immediate needs.
- Use assessment findings in discharge planning.
- Collaborate with providers and other clinical disciplines as appropriate.
- Provide teaching specific to the patient's health care problem.
- Care plan reflects continuing care needs and/or referrals for discharge/transfer.
- Is familiar with, and follows, nursing protocols and standards of care for their unit.
- Use current knowledge in nursing practice based on standards and research literature.
- Monitor outcomes and documents patient response to interventions.
- Evaluate the patient's capabilities and/or limitations related to nursing and medical interventions.
- Continually monitors the patient and/or significant other(s) ability to manage care needs after dismissal.
- Give a complete verbal or written change of shift report to the oncoming care provider. Includes current care requirements, to include SBAR (situation, background, assessment and recommendation) content, and is familiar with the overall plan of care.
- Recognize and address patient and family capabilities and limitations (physical and mental).
- Able to competently perform technical skills independently.
- Is accountable to learn new skills and equipment within areas' specifications and time frame.
- Demonstrate correct and safe technique in the use of equipment according to specific product information and policy and procedure manuals.
- Follow appropriate procedure for obtaining and returning or cleaning/disposing of equipment and supplies.
- Communicate effectively to solve problems at the personal and unit level.
- Is approachable and professional in working with other health professionals, ancillary staff, patients and family.
- Take pride in the unit by active participation in restocking and maintaining a clean environment.
- Maintain a professional appearance, behavior, and work environment.
- Maintain competence in area of experience.
- Participate in meetings and/or committees as needed to assist in decisions effecting area/unit or organization.
- Complete appropriate report form for any risk (e.g., variance/incident report, patient concern report, maintenance request).
- Communicate to appropriate personnel regarding unresolved issues.
- Work within the scope of practice as defined by State Nurse Practice Act.
- Observes appropriate precautions when administering hazardous medications or handling excreta from patients who have received hazardous medications.
- Right task (within the scope of practice, according to the job description, based on the desired outcome, task routine, non-complex, low risk and predictable outcome).
- Right person (assess competency by: certification/licensure, job description, skills checklist, demonstrated skill).
- Right communication (clear, concise, correct, complete).
- Right feedback: the Reciprocal Process (ask teammates' input first, recognize effort, get teammates' solution to problem, check off points).
- Act professionally responsible for human and other resources.
- Charge accurately for use of supplies and equipment according to policy.
Job Requirements Education
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college of nursing required OR obtained within 5 years from date of hire for nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- For MJE Progressive Care: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing preferred, graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
- Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
- For NMH Critical Care & MJE Progressive Care: NIH Stroke Scale training or proof of training required in the first 6 months of hire.
- For MJE Progressive Care: Successful completion of Telemetry Cardiac Rhythm Course.
- If the specialty is not listed, no prior experience is required:
- Experience required:
- NMH CT Scan: 1 to 3 years' experience in direct patient care and proficient in intravenous (IV) start skills.
- NMH MRI: 1 to 3 years' experience in direct patient care and proficient in intravenous (IV) start skills.
- NMH Nuclear Medicine: 5 years' experience in nursing clinical settings and general experience in all areas of nursing practice.
- MJE Neurodiagnostics: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in cardiac/ICU.
- MWH PACU: Critical Care or Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience.
- NMH PACU: 1 to 2 years nursing experience.
- NMH Surgery GI Lab: 1 to 2 years experience.
- NMH Cath Lab: 1 year experience in Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Unit, Emergency Room, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Progressive Care unit.
- NMH Surgery Pre Op Services: 1 to 2 years nursing experience.
- Surgery OP Support HW: Minimum 2 years related experience in RN role.
- MFH Radiology Diagnostics: 3 years experience in direct patient care and proficient in IV start skills.
- Experience preferred:
- NMH Radiology Surgical: Experience in surgical environment.
- MWH Repro Endo Infert: Pre/post operative and circulating experience.
- MPC Colon & Rectal Surgery ASC: Acute care or surgical nursing experience.
- MJE Cardiopulmonary Rehab: 1 year of telemetry experience.
- MFH Radiology Diagnostics: Pre/post operative and circulating experience.
- Required:
- Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure.
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
- Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardio Life Support (ACLS).
- NMH Surgery Pre Op Services: ACLS required within 3 months of hire.
- Surgery OP Support HW: ACLS required within 6 months of hire.
- MJE Progressive Care: ACLS required within 1 year of hire.
- MFH Radiology Diagnostics: ACLS required within 3 months of hire.
- Preferred:
- Certification(s) in area of specialty preferred from National Certification Corporation (NCC) within 1 year of eligibility.
- NMH Cardiac Unit: Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) or Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN).
- NMH Cardiovascular Surgery: Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) or Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN).
- NMH Progressive Care Unit 4: Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) or Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN).
- Surgery Outpatient HW: Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR).
- NMH Progressive Care: Gerontological Nursing (GERO.BC) and Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN).
- NMH Surgery GI Lab: Certified Gastroenterology Registered Nurse (CGRN).
- NMH PACU: Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN)
- NMH Cath Lab: Cardiovascular Registered Nurse (CV.BC) within 3 years of hire.
- NMH Critical Care: Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN).
- Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients, family members, hospital personnel, and co-workers.
