NOTE:

This hybrid position is based at our headquarters in downtown Portland, Oregon. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of the office or be willing to relocate to the Portland metropolitan area. Employees are required to work onsite Tuesdays through Thursdays each week, with remote work flexibility on Mondays and Fridays, subject to business needs. This schedule supports collaboration, connection, and team engagement while providing flexibility for focused remote work.

Position Summary:

We are hiring for a Paralegal and this position will serve as a key partner for the General Counsel and other Legal Team members to facilitate timely legal support across all NWN operations. This paralegal must flexible, adaptive and motivated to support lawyers in multiple practice areas including litigation, environmental, labor and employment, corporate law, regulatory, securities, finance, disclosure, shareholder services, compliance and other matters. Ability and willingness to work cross-functionally, to think creatively and proactively, and to communicate effectively in a professional environment are a must. This position will cross-train with the Shareholder Services Manager and Corporate Paralegal to ensure full support. With oversight, this position will work directly with business partners and our outside legal counsel to gather documents, coordinate discovery and document gathering and/or review, draft reports, summaries or filings, and provide other support including administrative support as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provide paralegal support to attorneys across a broad range of legal practice areas, including litigation, environmental, labor and employment, corporate, regulatory, securities, finance, disclosure, shareholder services, and compliance matters.
• Partner with attorneys, business units, and outside counsel to gather information, coordinate legal requests, and support the timely resolution of legal matters.
• Coordinate document collection, review, discovery, subpoenas, filings, and other legal processes while maintaining organized and accurate records.
• Draft, prepare, and maintain legal documents, agreements, NDAs, reports, summaries, correspondence, and regulatory filings using approved templates and technology resources.
• Conduct legal, regulatory, legislative, and industry research and prepare summaries, analyses, and supporting materials for attorneys and business partners.
• Monitor and track project timelines, regulatory filings, license renewals, annual reports, litigation deadlines, and other legal obligations.
• Assist with litigation support activities, including case file management, document requests, discovery responses, chronologies, exhibits, and deadline tracking.
• Serve as a liaison between the Legal Department and business partners to facilitate clear communication, coordinate information requests, and provide timely updates.
• Cross-train with the Shareholder Services Manager and Corporate Paralegal to provide coverage and support for key legal and corporate governance functions.
• Exercise sound judgment and strategic thinking to identify potential issues, anticipate business and legal needs, and develop practical solutions.
• Adapt to a variety of assignments and changing priorities while providing responsive support across attorneys, legal disciplines, and business functions.
• Perform special assignments or projects as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in applicable field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Requires at least five years of paralegal experience in a law firm or company for a Level 2. Additional years of experience and demonstrated proficiency for a Level 3. Preference given to public company or public utility experience.
• Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with Word software programs - Word, Excel, PowerPoint along with experience with SharePoint for electronic document management
• Requires a motivated, self-driven, independent, efficient, and resourceful team player and individual contributor.
• Experience and desire to work on managing discovery, document collection/organization, due diligence, regulatory filings, court/legal filings etc.
• Ability to adapt to new subject matter areas easily and assimilate information quickly to develop additional areas of expertise.
• Exceptional reasoning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Attention to detail, excellent planning and organizational skills
• Professionalism and integrity and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
• Ability to maintain effective relationships with team members on a small team, as well as colleagues on all employee levels, including senior and mid-level management, business partners, vendors, outside legal counsel and opposing party counsel.
• Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability and desire to work independently as well as collaboratively.
• Superb work ethic and ability to multi-task, shift quickly from one task to another, prioritize, attend to detail and the big picture and follow-through on multiple projects and provide administrative support as needed/assigned.
• High degree of productivity, responsiveness, initiative and flexibility, and a commitment to producing excellent work in a timely manner.
• Flexibility to manage periods of varying work load.

Base salary range: $81,500.00 - $111,850.00 (Level 2) or $88,700.00 - $126,350.00 (Level 3) per year, depending on qualifications

Annual Target Incentive: Level 2, 9.5% target
Level 3, 9.5% target
Targets are calculated using eligible earnings during plan year participation. Payout, if earned, is based on company and individual performance for each plan year and may range from 0% - 200% of target. Targets are subject to change in subsequent plan years. Must be employed by September 30 in order to receive any prorated payout.
