Overview Job Title: Custodial Services Supervisor Location: Brooklyn Navy Yard, Brooklyn, NY 11205 Position Type: Full Time, Non-Exempt Department: Property Management Reports To: Senior Manager, Custodial Services Schedule: Sunday 7:00am – 4:00pm; Monday – Thursday 2:00pm – 11:00pm The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is a not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, the City of New York. BNYDC strives to provide an environment in which innovative companies can take root and grow. The Supervisor is responsible for managing a team of frontline custodial staff to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of BNY facilities, creating a safe, welcoming, and hygienic environment. This role is critical in fostering a motivated and productive team and ensuring all staff complete tasks efficiently. Responsibilities Manage a team of 15+ laborers, mentoring and providing staff with training and professional development opportunities Support the Custodial Services Manager with administrative tasks and facility initiatives Delegate tasks and monitor productivity, issue janitorial supplies and equipment Manage staff schedules, maintain timekeeping and personnel records Resolve employee and tenant complaints, concerns, and conflicts Conduct daily building walk-throughs and complete facility inspection reports Conduct daily checks of maintenance closets and equipment for safety and cleanliness Coordinate and support Yard-wide special events (up to 250 per year), including event set-up and break-down Lift and move furniture, machinery, and other heavy equipment (up to 8,000 pieces moved per year) Provide hands-on support in urgent situations (e.g., snow removal, leaks, outages) Ensure the general safety of daily operations and address hazards immediately Perform other job-related duties as assigned Qualifications & Skills High School Diploma or equivalent required 4+ years of facility management/janitorial experience 2+ years of supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment Demonstrated people leadership skills and ability to develop a team Ability to read and decipher floor plans, understanding various layouts (conference, theater, cocktail, etc.) Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to respond to the needs of employees, tenants, and visitors Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Strong asset management skills Ability to maintain a positive, productive atmosphere in a fast-paced environment High degree of initiative, self-motivation, and ability to motivate others Ability to develop and implement effective staff training procedures Must be able to lift/move 50+ pounds Valid driver’s license required Equipment repair and maintenance knowledge preferred On-call availability outside of the standard schedule for emergencies Note: The duties listed are not intended to limit the scope of responsibilities and do not restrict the supervisor's authority to assign and direct work as needed. #J-18808-Ljbffr Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corp
