Medical Courier Job Description Overview A Medical Courier is responsible for safely transporting medical items such as lab specimens, blood samples, pharmaceuticals, medical records, and equipment between healthcare facilities, laboratories, clinics, and hospitals. This role is critical in supporting patient care by ensuring timely and secure deliveries. Key Responsibilities Pick up and deliver medical specimens, lab samples, and supplies to designated locations Follow strict handling and transportation protocols (including biohazard and temperature-sensitive items) Ensure all deliveries are completed accurately and on schedule Maintain chain-of-custody documentation and delivery logs Verify contents and obtain signatures upon pickup and delivery Handle sensitive and confidential patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations Inspect vehicle regularly and ensure it is clean and in good working condition Follow all traffic laws and safety guidelines Communicate effectively with dispatchers, healthcare staff, and clients Required Skills & Qualifications Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record High school diploma or equivalent Strong time management and organizational skills Attention to detail and accuracy Ability to follow safety and handling procedures Good communication and customer service skills Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Basic knowledge of GPS/navigation systems Preferred Qualifications Prior courier, delivery, or healthcare experience Knowledge of medical terminology or laboratory procedures Experience handling biohazardous or temperature-controlled materials Working Conditions Frequent driving and travel between locations May require lifting packages (typically 10–50 lbs) Possible exposure to biohazard materials (with proper training and PPE) Flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts Physical Requirements Ability to sit for extended periods while driving Ability to lift, carry, and load packages Good vision and hearing for safe driving Salary Range (Typical) Approximately $25,000 – $45,000 per year (varies by location, experience, and employer) #J-18808-Ljbffr
