Location: 1910 East Innovation Park Drive, Tucson, AZ 85755 (Onsite)

Duration: 12+ Month Contract

Working Model: Fully onsite

Experience: 0–2 years of post-college laboratory experience

Pay: $27/hr. depending on experience

Position Overview

Roche is seeking an entry-level Research Associate I to join the PHCS group in Tucson. This role will support the development of early-phase assays prior to their transfer to CAP/CLIA-certified laboratories for clinical trials.

The Research Associate will perform laboratory experiments, support scientific and manufacturing activities, prepare technical documentation, and assist with computational data-processing activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory research, development, and manufacturing experiments to support Roche/Ventana projects.
• Execute experiments according to established protocols and project requirements.
• Perform scientific calculations and quantitative analysis of experimental results.
• Prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, and other scientific documentation.
• Present and discuss experimental results with the department and project team.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records, documentation, and electronic files.
• Follow applicable GMP, GLP, Design Control, and other regulatory requirements.
• Support team members with basic computational biology activities, including running scripts and reading basic code.
• Maintain familiarity with relevant scientific literature and laboratory practices.
• Work collaboratively with team members while demonstrating strong organization and attention to detail.
• Take ownership of assigned experiments and complete work accurately and on schedule.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Science, Microbiology, or a related scientific discipline.
• 0–2 years of relevant laboratory, research, biotech, diagnostics, or medical-device experience.
• Hands-on laboratory experience, including pipetting and laboratory experimentation.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to perform basic scientific calculations and interpret experimental data.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work onsite in Tucson, AZ.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in IHC / immunohistochemistry is highly desirable.
• Experience with histology, staining, microscopy, or assay development.
• Previous experience in a biotechnology, medical device, diagnostics, or pharmaceutical environment.
• Exposure to a regulated environment such as GMP, GLP, CAP/CLIA, or Design Control.
• Experience preparing scientific articles, protocols, reports, or technical documentation.
• Basic computational biology or scripting experience.

Important Candidate Criteria

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience.
• Master’s/PhD candidates and candidates with significantly more than 2 years of relevant experience may be considered overqualified for this specific opening.
• No remote or hybrid option — fully onsite.
• Approximately 2–3 weeks of onsite training is expected.
• Interview process: one panel interview, approximately 25 minutes, with 2–3 interviewers from the team/management.
